Batson is an Unincorporated area, unincorporated community in southwestern Hardin County, Texas, Hardin County, Texas, United States. It is located on Texas State Highway 105, State Highway 105 and is part of the Beaumont, Texas, Beaumont–Port Arthur, Texas, Port Arthur Beaumont–Port Arthur metropolitan area, Metropolitan Statistical Area. Education The West Hardin County Consolidated Independent School District serves area students. History This community was originally settled by the Batson family sometime before 1840. In October 1903, an oilfield was discovered to the north of the town, and soon after the population would boom to about 10,000 residents. The oil production would decrease by the mid-1920s, resulting in the population decline to about 600. In March 1935, another oil discovery would boost the population slightly, but over the next several decades, would decline again. The county is named for the family of William Hardin from Liberty County, Texas. Hardin County is part of the Beaumont- Port Arthur, TX metropolitan statistical area. State Highway 105 (SH 105) is a state highway in the U.S. state of Texas that runs from Brenham to the outskirts of Beaumont. The route was originally proposed in 1925 and took its current routing in 1984. Route description SH 105 begins as a pair of one-way roads at an intersection with Business U.S. Route 290 in downtown Brenham. It then progresses northeast out of Brenham through mainly farming lands. It passes near Washington-on-the-Brazos, Texas, which is the birthplace of Texas as the location of the signing of the Texas Declaration of Independence. Port Arthur is a city in the state of Texas, United States of America, located east of metro Houston. Part of the Beaumont–Port Arthur metropolitan area, the city lies primarily in Jefferson County, with a small extension in Orange County. The Beaumont–Port Arthur metropolitan statistical area is a three-county region in Southeast Texas. The metropolitan area shares borders with the Houston–The Woodlands–Sugar Land metropolitan area to the west and the Lake Charles metropolitan area in the U.S. state of Louisiana to the east. The area is also known as the Golden Triangle.
