Batman R.I.P. is an American comic book story arc published in ''Batman (comic book), Batman'' #676–681 by DC Comics. Written by Grant Morrison, penciled by Tony Daniel, and with covers by Alex Ross, the story pits the superhero Batman against the Black Glove (comics), Black Glove organization as they attempt to destroy everything that he stands for. It has a number of tie-ins in other DC Comics titles describing events not told in the main story. Plot The Batman of Zur-en-arrh The story begins with Dick Grayson, Batman and Damian Wayne, Robin perched onto a gothic building lit by lightning, where the former defiantly proclaims, "Batman and Robin will never die!". Events then flash back to Gotham City six months earlier, where Simon Hurt announces the Black Glove's next venture: the destruction of Batman. ''Batman'' is an ongoing American comic book series featuring the DC Comics superhero Batman as its protagonist. The character, created by Bill Finger and Bob Kane, first appeared in ''Detective Comics'' #27 (cover dated May 1939). Batman proved to be so popular that a self-titled ongoing comic book series began publication with a cover date of spring 1940. It was first advertised in early April 1940, one month after the first appearance of his new sidekick, Robin (character), Robin the Boy Wonder. Batman comics have proven to be popular since the 1940s. Though the ''Batman'' comic book was launched as a quarterly publication, it later became a bimonthly series through the late 1950s, after which it became a monthly publication. In September 2011, ''The New 52'' rebooted DC's continuity. Arkham Asylum () is a fictional psychiatric hospital appearing in American comic books published by DC Comics, commonly in stories featuring Batman. It first appeared in ''Batman'' #258 (October 1974), written by Dennis O'Neil with art by Irv Novick. Located in Gotham City, the asylum houses patients who are Insanity defense, criminally insane, as well as select prisoners with unusual medical requirements that are beyond a conventional prison's ability to accommodate. Its high-profile patients are often members of Batman's List of Batman Family enemies#Classic rogues gallery, rogues gallery. In June 2020, Newsarama was merged with the website ''GamesRadar+'', also owned by Future US. History Message board column ''Newsarama'' began in mid-1995 as a series of Internet forum postings on the Prodigy (ISP), Prodigy comic book message boards by fan Mike Doran. In the forum postings, Doran shared comic book-related news items he had found across the World Wide Web and, as these postings became more regular and read widely, he gave them the title "Prodigy Comic Book Newswire."
