Bastille (band)
Bastille are an English indie pop band formed in 2010. The group began as a solo project by lead vocalist Dan Smith (singer), Dan Smith, but later expanded to include keyboardist Kyle Simmons, bassist and guitarist Will Farquarson and drummer Chris "Woody" Wood. After an independently released debut single and a self-released EP, the band signed to Virgin Records. Their first studio album, ''Bad Blood (Bastille album), Bad Blood'', was released in March 2013 and entered the UK Albums Chart at number one and included the hit single "Pompeii (song), Pompeii" which peaked at number two on the UK Singles Chart. Bastille released the album in the US later that year. Dan Smith (singer)
Daniel Campbell Smith (born 14 July 1986) is an English singer, songwriter and record producer, best known as the founder, lead singer and primary songwriter of the English pop rock band Bastille. The band formed in 2010 and gained mass popularity in 2013 when the song "Pompeii" was released with their album '' Bad Blood''. The band then released their second album, '' Wild World'' in September 2016. In June 2019, the band released their third album ''Doom Days''. In February 2022, they released their fourth album '' Give Me the Future''. In October 2024, they released their fifth album '' “&” (Ampersand)''. The Bastille (, ) was a fortress in Paris, known as the Bastille Saint-Antoine. It played an important role in the internal conflicts of France and for most of its history was used as a state prison by the kings of France. It was stormed by a crowd on 14 July 1789, in the French Revolution, becoming an important symbol for the French Republican movement. It was later demolished and replaced by the Place de la Bastille. The castle was built to defend the eastern approach to the city from potential English attacks during the Hundred Years' War. The Reading and Leeds Festivals are a pair of annual music festivals that take place in Reading, Berkshire, Reading and Leeds in England. The events take place simultaneously on the Friday, Saturday and Sunday of the August bank holiday weekend. The Reading Festival is held at Little John's Farm on Richfield Avenue in central Reading, near Caversham Bridge. The Leeds event is held in Bramham Park, near Wetherby, the grounds of a historic house. Blissfields was an annual music festival in Hampshire, England founded by Paul and Mel Bliss in 2001 at Bradley Farm, Bradley, near New Alresford, Alresford. In 2011 the festival moved to a new site in Vicarage Farm, Woodmancott near Winchester. The festival is currently 2,500 ticket capacity and has previously seen appearances from Mumford and Sons, Bastille (band), Bastille, Laura Marling, Super Furry Animals, Tricky (musician), Tricky, Dizzee Rascal, Years & Years, and Wolf Alice.
