Barton–Lexa School District
Barton–Lexa School District is a public school district based in Phillips County, Arkansas. The school district supports early childhood, elementary and secondary education in prekindergarten through grade 12 for more than 800 students and employs more than 100 faculty and staff for its two schools. The school district encompasses of land, and serves all of Barton, as well as the municipalities of Lexa and Lake View, and the census-designated place of Oneida. On July 1, 2004, the Lake View School District was consolidated into the Barton–Lexa School District. Phillips County is a county located in the eastern part of the U.S. state of Arkansas, in what is known as the Arkansas Delta along the Mississippi River. Lake View is a city in Phillips County, Arkansas, United States. The population was 443 at the 2010 census. Because there is also a Lakeview in Baxter County, many residents want to rename Lakeview to "Lake Helena". The original settlement name was "Turkey Scratch" from the 1850s to the official declaration of the town's namesake was in the 1920s. When the town was re-established in 1937, Lake View became one of three communities in Arkansas to be reserved for black farm families by the Resettlement Administration. Lake View School District
Lake View School District #25 was a school district headquartered in Lake View, Arkansas. Its schools were Lake View Elementary School (K-6) and C. V. White High School (7-12). In 1992 the school district sued the state government, accusing it of unevenly funding school districts. As a result of that lawsuit and others, in November 2002 the Arkansas Supreme Court decided that the state needed to increase the funding of public schools through new laws. Among the new laws written was one forcing school districts with under 350 students to consolidate into other school districts. In 2004, its final year of operation, the Lake View district had 136 students; the small size made the district eligible for forced consolidation. Until April 1, 2004, the district could have entered into a mutual agreement with another district, but it was unable to find a merger partner.
