Barthélemy Pouliot
Barthélemy Pouliot (October 15, 1811 – February 26, 1890) was a Quebec businessman and political figure. He represented L'Islet in the 1st Canadian Parliament as a Conservative member. He was born in Saint-Jean on the ÃŽle d'Orléans in 1811 and was educated at Quebec City Quebec City is the capital city of the Provinces and territories of Canada, Canadian province of Quebec. Pouliot was elected to the House of Commons in 1867; his election was annulled after an appeal but he was reelected in an 1869 by-election. He died at L'Islet in 1890. L'Islet () was a federal electoral district (Canada), electoral district in Quebec, Canada, that was represented in the House of Commons of Canada from 1867 to 1935. It was created by the British North America Act, 1867, ''British North America Act'', 1867 and consisted of the County of L'Islet. It was amalgamated into the Kamouraska (federal electoral district), Kamouraska and Montmagny—L'Islet electoral districts in 1933. L'Islet () is a municipality (Quebec), municipality within L'Islet Regional County Municipality in the Chaudière-Appalaches region of Quebec, Canada. It is located on the south shore of the Saint Lawrence River halfway between Quebec City and Rivière-du-Loup. The Musée Maritime du Québec (Quebec Marine Museum) is located there on Quebec Route 132, Route 132. History and geography The current town of L'Islet was formed in 2000 with the merger of the former city of L'Islet, the municipality of L'Islet-sur-Mer, Quebec, L'Islet-sur-Mer, and the parish municipality of Saint-Eugène. Louis-Bonaventure Caron
Louis-Bonaventure Caron (November 16, 1828 – May 28, 1915) was a lawyer, judge and political figure in Quebec. He represented L'Islet in the Legislative Assembly of the Province of Canada from 1863 to 1866. He was born in L'Islet, Quebec, the son of Bonaventure Caron and Rosalie Martineau, and was educated at the Sainte-Anne-de-la-Pocatière College, the Séminaire de Nicolet and the Séminaire de Saint-Hyacinthe. Caron was admitted to the bar in 1855. Caron was elected in L'Islet in 1858 but his election was overturned in June that same year; he ran unsuccessfully in 1861. He opposed Confederation. Caron was an unsuccessful candidate for a seat in the Canadian House of Commons in 1867 and 1869. In 1866, he married Angélique-Élisabeth-Hermine Pacaud, the daughter of Édouard-Louis Pacaud. Philippe Baby Casgrain (December 30, 1826 РMay 23, 1917) was a Quebec lawyer, author and political figure. He represented L'Islet in the House of Commons of Canada as a Liberal member from 1873 to 1891. He was born in Quebec City in 1826, the son of Charles-Eus̬be Casgrain, and studied at the College of Ste. Anne de la Pocati̬re. He articled in law with Jean-Thomas Taschereau, was called to the bar in 1850 and practiced at Quebec with Pierre Joseph Olivier Chauveau. In 1854, he married Mathilde Perrault. He was named deputy prothonotary for the Quebec Superior Court in Quebec district. Casgrain was named Queen's Counsel in 1879. After he retired from politics, he was clerk for the Quebec Circuit and Revision Court. Île d'Orléans (; ) is an island located in the Saint Lawrence River about east of downtown Quebec City, Quebec, Canada. It was one of the first parts of the province to be colonized by the French, and a large percentage of French Canadians can trace ancestry to early residents of the island. The island has been described as the "microcosm of traditional Quebec and as the birthplace of francophones in North America." It has about 7,000 inhabitants, spread over six villages.
