Bart Smit B.V. was a Dutch store-chain that specialised in toys, multimedia and electronics. History The chain started on 1 June 1967 as a small store in Volendam. Bart Smit originally sold toys, household appliances and kitchenware. Later Bart Smit started focussing exclusively on toys. The name of the owner was Bart Smit, which is also the origin of the chain's name. Until 1995 the chain was known as "Speelgoedpaleis Bart Smit" (''Toy Palace Bart Smit''). In 1985 Bart Smit was acquired by Blokker Holding. In 1999 Bart Smit started the daughter company E-Plaza, specialising in computer games. In 1989 Bart Smit opened its first shop in Belgium. In 2008 Bart Smit had 189 stores in the Netherlands, 51 in Belgium (of which 40 in Flanders and 11 in Wallonia) and one in Luxembourg. In 2017, Blokker Holding started converting all Bart Smit stores in the Netherlands to Intertoys stores. This took longer than expected as some stores were too close to existing Intertoys branches. Emmen (Drenthe)
Emmen () is a municipality and town of the province of Drenthe in the northeastern Netherlands. History A planned city, Emmen arose from several small farming and peat-harvesting communities which have dotted the province of Drenthe since the Middle Ages. Traces of these communities can still be seen in the form of the villages of Westenesch, Noordbarge and Zuidbarge: they have a separate history and layout but are surrounded by the suburbs and the center of Emmen. The expansion of the town did not happen until after the Second World War. The Nederlandse Omroep Stichting (; NOS ; English: Dutch Broadcasting Foundation) is one of the broadcasting organisations making up the Netherlands Public Broadcasting system. Intertoys is a Dutch chain of stores founded in 1976 that specialises in toys, multimedia and electronics. It is headquartered in Amsterdam. History Intertoys was founded on June 25, 1976 by Hobo Faam, a purchasing cooperative of independent toy dealers. Interested members of Hobo Faam could apply for joining the Intertoys chain, agreeing to offer the same assortment of toys and carry Intertoys co-branding. In 1979, upon reaching 50 members, Intertoys decided to retire the various independent brands of the local toy dealers operating its stores, instead emphasizing the unified Intertoys logo.
