Barré was a French automobile manufacturer established by at Niort. Some sources give the starting date for the business as 1900, although Barré's first automobile was presented in December 1899 at the Paris Motor Show.Georgano: ''The Beaulieu Encyclopedia of the Automobile.'' Production ended in 1930. Gaston Barré Barré was born in Cholet on 25 June 1864, but in 1888 relocated to nearby Parthenay, where he worked as a Arquebus, gunsmith. Niort (; Poitevin: ''Niàu''; ; ) is a commune in the Deux-Sèvres department, western France. It is the prefecture of Deux-Sèvres. In both road and rail vehicles, the wheelbase is the horizontal distance between the centers of the front and rear wheels. The torpedo body style was a type of automobile body used from 1908 until the mid-1930s, which had a streamlined profile and a folding or detachable soft top. The design consists of a hood or bonnet line raised to be level with the car's waistline, resulting in a straight beltline from front to back. The name was introduced in 1908 when Captain Theo Masui, the London-based importer of French Gregoire cars, designed a streamlined body and called it "The Torpedo". Ballot was a French manufacturer, initially of engines, that also made automobiles between 1919 and 1932. Ernest Ballot became well known as a designer of reliable engines. He helped Ettore Bugatti in developing his first engines. Origins Ernest Ballot and Julien Faivre founded their company at the Boulevard Brune in south-central Paris in 1905.Ernest Ballot's brother Albert was also involved early in the company's life. Ernest Ballot was a former naval officer, which explains the "anchor" that featured in the badges on the cars.
