Barrenjoey, New South Wales
Barrenjoey is a locality in the suburb of Palm Beach, New South Wales, Palm Beach, at the most northern tip of Pittwater. The headland is made up primarily of sandstones of the Newport Formation (NSW), Newport Formation, the top third is a cap of Hawkesbury sandstone. Around 10,000 years ago the headland was cut off from the mainland due to the rising sea level; subsequent buildup of a sand spit or tombolo reconnected the island to the mainland (a 'tied island'). It is the location of the Barrenjoey Head Lighthouse, a lighthouse that was first lit in 1881. In 1995 Barrenjoey was gazetted into Ku-ring-gai Chase National Park. History On 2 March 1788, Arthur Phillip named the headland "Barrenjuee" (meaning little kangaroo or wallaby). The name changed its spelling over time, Barrenjoey now being the accepted name since 1966. Barrenjoey Capital Partners (Barrenjoey) is an Australian investment banking firm that is headquartered in Sydney with additional offices in Melbourne, Perth, Abu Dhabi, and Hong Kong. History In May 2020, former UBS Australia chairman Guy Fowler and UBS Australia Head Matthew Grounds were in the process of launching their own firm with the backing of Magellan Financial Group and Barclays and had already received signed contacts from 50 to 60 people ready to join the new firm. However the firm did not launch as planned as the two felt they were not ready, the structure needed to be changed and they lacked someone to run it for them. Barrenjoey Road
Barrenjoey Road is a main urban road along the northern coast of the Northern Beaches suburbs of Sydney, Australia. In 1978, the Barrenjoey Road area came to national attention due to the unsolved disappearance of Trudie Adams. Route Barrenjoey Road commences at the intersection with Beach Road in Palm Beach and heads in a southerly direction as a two-lane, single-carriageway road, through Bilgola Beach and Avalon Beach before it reaches Newport, where it widens to a four-lane, dual-carriageway road, and then to six lanes immediately afterwards, to eventually terminate at the intersection with Pittwater Road in Mona Vale. Barrenjoey Head Lighthouse
The Barrenjoey Head Lighthouse is a heritage register, heritage-listed lighthouse at Barrenjoey Headland in the Sydney suburb of Palm Beach, New South Wales, Palm Beach, New South Wales, Australia. It was designed by James Barnet, the New South Wales Government Architect, New South Wales Colonial Architect and built by Isaac Banks. It is also known as Barrenjoey Head Lightstation. The property is owned by Office of Environment and Heritage, an government agency, agency of the Government of New South Wales. The lightstation was added to the New South Wales State Heritage Register on 2 April 1999. Completed in 1881, the current lighthouse is the third light constructed on the headland in the Northern Beaches district of Sydney.
