Baroka F
Baroka F.C. is a South African Association football, football club from Ga-Mphahlele near Polokwane, Limpopo that plays in the National First Division. History Baroka won the Limpopo Stream of the SAFA Second Division three years in succession, failing to earn promotion in the national playoffs twice before earning promotion to the National First Division at the third attempt. In their debut season in the National First Division they came close to gaining promotion play-offs to the Premier Soccer League but fell short on goal difference on the last day with a 1–1 draw against Thanda Royal Zulu. While still in the third tier, the club received national attention by reaching the semi-final of the 2010–11 Nedbank Cup, defeating several South African Premiership, Premiership sides including Moroka Swallows and Kaizer Chiefs along the way. National First Division
The South African Championship, officially known as the Motsepe Foundation Championship for sponsorship reasons, is the second-highest league of South African football after the South African Premiership. Both the South African Championship and South African Premiership are organised by the Premier Soccer League. Structure and rules Seasons 2007–2011 The restructured NFD was divided into two streams, one inland and another coastal – each of which consisted of 8 teams. The winners of the two streams played against each other in a 'final' at the end of the season – the winner of which was promoted to the Premiership. The loser of the 'final' played in a mini-tournament/play-offs against the two second-placed teams in each stream and the 15th-placed team on the Premiership log. Telkom Knockout
The Carling Knockout Cup is a South African professional soccer knockout competition which comprises the 16 teams in the South African Premiership. The Carling Knockout Cup is the third of the three main cups administered by the PSL along with the MTN 8 and the Nedbank Cup. The Carling Knockout Cup was first held in 1982 as the Datsun Challenge, and in 2023 under its current sponsored name. Format The format used in this competition is the Knockout Stage phase. The competition will be played by 16 teams in a single knockout match. A winner will be decided after full-time (90 minutes). If the two teams playing against each other are still tied after full-time, then the match will go through to extra time. If the score is still tied, then the match will go to penalties. 2022–23 National First Division
The 2022–23 National First Division (called the Motsepe Foundation Championship for sponsorship reasons) was the season from September 2022 to June 2023 of South Africa's second tier of professional soccer, the National First Division. Previous sponsors GladAfrica pulled out after three years of their five-year deal, and were replaced by Patrice Motsepe, with the competition being renamed the Motsepe Foundation Championship. 2013–14 National First Division
The 2013–14 National First Division was played from September 2013 until May 2014, and is the second tier of South Africa's professional football. Chippa United won the league, earning promotion to the 2014–15 Premiership. Black Leopards and Milano United finished second and third, thus qualifying for the promotion/relegation play-offs against Polokwane City, which had finished 15th in the Premiership. Polokwane City won the play-off, retaining the Premiership place. Roses United and Blackburn Rovers were relegated to the ABC Motsepe League following their 15th and 16th-place finishes. 2009–10 SAFA Second Division
The 2009–10 SAFA Second Division season, also known as Vodacom League due to a sponsoring deal at the time, took place in South Africa between August and April. The season was scheduled to begin and end one month earlier than normal, due to the country's 2010 FIFA World Cup preparation. The league is the third tier of South African football, and is divided geographically into five divisions in the Coastal Stream and four divisions in the Inland Stream.
