Barbara Flerow-Bułhak
Barbara Flerow-Bułhak (23 May 1914 – August 1944) was a Polish chess master. She was a Women's World Chess Championship participant (1937). She was killed in the Warsaw Uprising. Biography Barbara Flerow-Bułhak participated in the first two finals of the Polish Women's Chess Championship. In 1935, she ranked 7th place, while in 1937 she won the title of Polish Women's Chess vice-champion (both finals were played in Warsaw). Also she participated in the Warsaw Women's Chess Championship twice, where in 1936 she ranked 2nd place, and in 1937 she shared together with Regina Gerlecka 1st – 2nd place. In 1937 in Stockholm she participated in the Women's World Chess Championship and shared 17th - 20th place (tournament won by Vera Menchik). Warsaw Insurgents Cemetery
The Warsaw Insurgents Cemetery () is located at 174/176 Wolska Street in the Wola district of Warsaw. It was established in 1945 and occupies . It is the largest burial site of victims of the Warsaw Uprising, which broke out on 1 August 1944 and lasted until 2 October 1944. Approximately 104,000 people (mainly persons unknown) are buried in the cemetery, mostly in collective graves. Its centrepiece is the monument to ''The Fallen Unconquerable'' (), created by Professor Kazimierz Zemła, under which the ashes of 50,000 victims of the uprising are buried. The monument was unveiled in 1973. Approximately 10,000 Polish resistance fighters and 200,000 civilians were killed during the 63 days of the Warsaw Uprising. Vera Menchik
Vera Francevna Mencikova (, ''Vera Frantsevna Menchik''; ; 16 February 1906 – 26 June 1944), was a Russian-born Czechoslovak chess player who primarily resided in England. She was the first and longest-reigning Women's World Chess Championship, Women's World Chess Champion from 1927 to 1944, winning the championship a record eight times primarily in round-robin tournament, round-robin tournaments. In an era when women primarily competed against other women, Menchik was the first and only woman competing in master-level tournaments with the world's best players. Menchik was born in Moscow to a Czech father and English mother. She began playing chess competitively in school at age 14 not long before the Russian Revolution led her family to leave Russia and move to England in 1921.
