Banff—Airdrie
Banff—Airdrie was a federal electoral district in Alberta, Canada, that was represented in the House of Commons of Canada from 2015 to 2025. Banff—Airdrie was created by the 2012 federal electoral boundaries redistribution. It came into effect upon the call of the 42nd Canadian federal election. The riding was created out of parts of Wild Rose (98%) and Macleod (2%) electoral districts. Following the 2022 Canadian federal electoral redistribution, it was abolished at the 2025 Canadian federal election, with the riding being split between Airdrie—Cochrane, Bow River, and Yellowhead. Demographics Geography The riding contains the northern and western exurbs of Calgary, and runs west along the Bow River valley and includes all of Banff National Park. 2022 Canadian Federal Electoral Redistribution
A redistribution of federal electoral districts ("ridings") began in Canada following the results of the 2021 Canadian census. The Constitution of Canada requires that federal electoral districts that compose the House of Commons undergo a redistribution of boundaries following each decennial Canadian census. The redistribution process began in October 2021; it was completed in October 2023. It is based on data obtained during the 2021 Canadian census. It is also based on the practice of giving each district only one member, which has been in effect since the 1968 election. The changes to the federal electoral district boundaries took effect for the 2025 Canadian federal election, which was the first general election called after April 22, 2024. If the election had been called before this date, that election would have used the existing electoral district boundaries, which had been in effect since the 2015 federal election was called on August 4, 2015. Blake Richards
Blake Richards (born November 8, 1974) is a Canadian politician. He has been a Conservative Member of Parliament since 2008, having been elected to represent the now defunct electoral district (or riding) of Wild Rose in the October 14, 2008 and May 2, 2011 federal elections and subsequently the riding of Banff—Airdrie in federal elections held in 2015, 2019, and 2021. Early life and career Richards was born in Olds, Alberta. Prior to starting his real estate business, Richards worked in the oil field and agriculture-related industries, and attended Red Deer College and the University of Calgary, where he earned a degree in political science. Macleod (federal Electoral District)
Macleod was a federal electoral district in Alberta, Canada, that was represented in the House of Commons of Canada from 1908 to 1968 and from 1988 to 2015. It was a mostly rural riding in southwest Alberta, however it extended as far north as the outer suburbs of Calgary, and in its final years included a few slivers of Calgary itself. It covered the Municipal District of Foothills No. 31, Municipal District of Willow Creek No. 26, Municipal District of Pincher Creek No. 9, Municipal District of Ranchland No. 66, Vulcan County, the Municipality of Crowsnest Pass, and Kananaskis Improvement District. Wild Rose (electoral District)
Wild Rose was a federal electoral district in Alberta, Canada, that was represented in the House of Commons of Canada from 1988 to 2015. It had been considered a safe seat for the Conservative Party of Canada. Geography The district was located in the southwest part of Alberta, stretching from the British Columbia border to the outer northern suburbs of Calgary. Within the large riding were: the City of Airdrie, the towns of Olds, Didsbury, Cochrane, Canmore, Sundre, and Banff, the Municipal District of Bighorn No. 8, Mountain View County, Improvement District No. 9, and parts of Clearwater County and Rocky View County.
