Banatsko Višnjićevo
Banatsko Višnjićevo (; ) is a village in Serbia. It is situated in the Žitište municipality, in the Central Banat District, Vojvodina province. The village has a Serb ethnic majority (94.27%) and its population was 384 as of the 2002 census. Name The exact origin of the village name is unclear. It was either named after the famous Serb epic poet Filip Višnjić or for the cherry tree ("višnja" in Serbian) that was founded here by the first settlers, or after the surveyor Višnjić, who performed first measuring in the settlement. In Hungarian the village is known as ''Vida''. Vehicle registration plates of Serbia display black alphanumeric characters on a white background with blue field placed along the left side edge. Filip Višnjić
Filip Višnjić ( sr-Cyrl, Филип Вишњић, ; 1767–1834) was a Serbian epic poet and '' guslar''. His repertoire included 13 original epic poems chronicling the First Serbian Uprising against the Ottoman Empire and four reinterpreted epics from different periods of history of Serbia. Born in a village near Ugljevik, Višnjić went blind at the age of eight or nine after contracting smallpox. He lost his family early in life, and began playing the ''gusle'' and reciting epic poetry around the age of 20. He spent years wandering the Balkans as a vagabond, and performed and begged for a living. His storytelling abilities attracted the attention of a number of influential figures, and around 1797, he married into an affluent family.
