The King Michael I University of Life Sciences (; abbreviated USVT), known until 2022 as the University of Agricultural Sciences and Veterinary Medicine of Banat, is a public university in Timișoara, Romania, which specializes in life sciences and veterinary medicine. It was named in honor of King Michael I of Romania. History The existence of USVT is related to the establishment of the Faculty of Agronomy, within the Politehnica University of Timișoara, Polytechnic Institute of Timișoara, by ''Law no. 617'' promulgated by King Michael I on 30 July 1945. Erwin Teufel (born 4 September 1939, in Zimmern ob Rottweil) is a German politician of the CDU. Karl Fritz Lauer (11 April 1938 – 5 June 2018) was a Romanian-German agricultural scientist in phytopathology and herbology. Biography Lauer was born son of a German teacher and vice-notary in Banat, his older brother was the journalist Heinrich Lauer. Lauer started school in Vienna in 1944 during the family's flight from the ravages of war. After the war he returned to Banat and attended elementary school, then a middle school for the food industry and evening Lyceum in Timișoara where he took the final exams. He then studied at the Agricultural University of Timișoara and qualified with a diploma in Agricultural Engineering (1965) and a doctorate of agriculture under Anghel (1974). The Green Forest (in Romanian ''Pădurea Verde'', in Hungarian ''Vadászerdő'', in German ''Jagdwald'', the last two translated as "hunting forest") is an urban forest located in northeastern Timișoara, covering an area of 724 ha (or 737 ha according to other sources).
