Balázs Horváth
Balázs Horváth (13 August 1942, Budapest – 2 July 2006) was an Interior minister of Hungary. He was a member of the Hungarian Democratic Forum. He was a lawyer, a graduate of the Faculty of Law of the Eötvös Loránd University in Budapest. In 1988, he was among the founders of the Hungarian Democratic Forum, in 1990 for several months served as interior minister in the government of József Antall. Later he left the Hungarian Democratic Forum, for a time was an independent MP, in 2004, he founded the National Forum with several representatives, which entered into a coalition with Fidesz Fidesz – Hungarian Civic Alliance (; ) is a national-conservative political party in Hungary led by Viktor Orbán. It has increasingly identified as illiberal. Originally formed in 1988 under the name of Alliance of Young Democrats () as ... block. The Ministry of Interior of Hungary ( ) is a part of the Hungarian state organisation. Its head, the Minister of the Interior, is a member of the Hungarian cabinet. The ministry was established in 1848. Between 2006 and 2010 the ministry was split into the Ministry of Local Government and the Ministry of Justice and Law. In 2010 the prior organization was restored. During the existence of the Hungarian People's Republic, a number of security agencies were under the Ministry of Interior. These included the Internal Troops (''Belső Karhatalom''); the State Protection Authority (''Államvelédelmi Hatoság'', ÁVH)'s and the , wearing army uniforms, 15,000 strong; and the Workers' Militia (''Munkás Őrség'', MO). By mid-1986 it was estimated that the Border Guard were 16,000 strong, with 11,000 conscripts, divided into 11 districts. Fidesz – Hungarian Civic Alliance (; ) is a national-conservative political party in Hungary led by Viktor Orbán. It has increasingly identified as illiberal. Originally formed in 1988 under the name of Alliance of Young Democrats () as a centre-left and liberal activist movement that opposed the ruling Marxist–Leninist government. It was registered as a political party in 1990, with Orbán as its leader. It entered the National Assembly following the 1990 parliamentary election. Following the 1998 election, it successfully formed a centre-right government. It adopted nationalism in the early 2000s, but its popularity declined due to corruption scandals.
