Balloërveld
Balloërveld or Ballooërveld () is a hamlet in the municipality of Aa en Hunze in the province of Drenthe in the Netherlands. Balloërveld owes its name to the nearby village of Balloo. The hamlet is located on the old main road Loon - Gasteren, on the edge of the Drentsche Aa National Landscape. In 2023, 14 people lived in the hamlet. The hamlet has its own zip code. Loon, Drenthe
Loon is a village in the Netherlands and is part of the Assen municipality in Drenthe. The ''hunebed'' (dolmen) is located near the village. Overview Loon is an ''esdorp'' which developed in the early middle ages on higher grounds. It does not have a church. It was first mentioned around 1300 as "in villa Loen", and means "settlement near the forest". In 1815, it became part of the municipality of Assen. In 1840, it was home to 129 people. Loon used to have a dairy factory and a sawmill. In the 1950s, a villa ward was added to the village. The village is nowadays on the edge of the city of Assen, however a railway line and canal provide some separation. Dolmen D15 The ''hunebed'' (dolmen) is located near the village. It was first described in 1654, but was overgrown and buried. Drentsche Aa
The Drentsche Aa () is a river rising in the Dutch province of Drenthe, flowing through Drenthe and for the last part the province of Groningen. It ends in the Schipsloot near Haren, which flows into the Noord-Willemskanaal; however, originally it ended into the Selwerderdiep. The water finally ends in the Lauwersmeer and Waddenzee. In Groningen and the northernmost part of Drenthe the water is known as Drentsche Aa (sometimes Aa in Groningen), but in Drenthe it has a multitude of local names, such as ''Deurzerdiep'', ''Looner Diep'', ''Taarlosche Diep'', ''Oudemolensche Diep'', ''Schipborgsche Diep'', and ''Westerdiep''. Gasteren
Gasteren is a village in the Dutch province of Drenthe. It is a part of the municipality of Aa en Hunze, and lies about 8 km east of Assen. The village was first mentioned between 1298 and 1304 as "in villa Ghestre, apud Ghesteren". The etymology is unclear. The ''hunebed'' (dolmen A dolmen, () or portal tomb, is a type of single-chamber Megalith#Tombs, megalithic tomb, usually consisting of two or more upright megaliths supporting a large flat horizontal capstone or "table". Most date from the Late Neolithic period (4000 ...) is a small incomplete dolmen. It has been fenced off because, there are sheep in the heath. It used to have four capstones, but only two have remained. There are also 44 burial mounds around the village. Gasteren was home to 155 people in 1840.
