Beit Aghion (, ''Aghion House''), also known as Beit Rosh HaMemshala (, lit. ''House of the prime minister'') or metonymously as Balfour, is the official residence of the prime minister of Israel. It is located at 9 Smolenskin Street, on the corner of Balfour Street in the upscale central Jerusalem neighborhood of Rehavia. History The house was built between 1936 and 1938 for Greek-Jewish merchant Edward Aghion, an affluent resident of Alexandria in Egypt. It was designed by German architect Richard Kauffmann. Baron Balfour Of Glenawley
Baron Balfour of Glenawley or Clonawley, in the County of Fermanagh, was a title in the Peerage of Ireland. It was created in 1619 for Sir James Balfour, younger brother of the 1st Lord Balfour of Burleigh. It refers to the barony of Clanawley (sometimes erroneously written as Glenawley). Balfour was the second son of judge James Balfour, Lord Pittendreich. He and his elder brother were granted lands in Ireland during the Plantation of Ulster. Lord Balfour of Glenawley was the largest of the undertakers in County Fermanagh, where he built Castle Balfour in Lisnaskea. Lord Balfour died in October 1634. He had two sons who survived him, but neither had heirs, and they died shortly after him. The title became extinct on the death of his younger son in 1636, however, it is possible he never succeeded to the title. Lord Balfour Of Burleigh
Lord Balfour of Burleigh, in the County of Kinross, is a title in the Peerage of Scotland. It was created in 1607 for Sir Michael Balfour. He was succeeded by his daughter, Margaret, his only child. She married Robert Arnot, who assumed the surname of Balfour and sat as Lord Balfour of Burleigh in the Scottish Parliament in right of his wife. Their son, the third Lord, fought with the Covenanters at the Battle of Drumclog. His grandson, the fifth Lord, was tried and convicted of the murder of schoolmaster Henry Stenhouse at Inverkeithing in 1709. He was sentenced to death in 1710 but escaped to freedom by dressing in his sister's clothes. He was primarily known as Master of Burleigh, the title for the heir to the peerage, as he never took his seat in Parliament when his father died in 1713. Balfour Williamson & Co was a shipping company based in Liverpool, England, and later an export confirming house and freight forwarding company. Latterly a subsidiary of Lonmin (formerly Lonrho). In October 2016 the company returned to family ownership when acquired by Guthrie Williamson, the great-great-great-grandson of the founder Stephen Williamson. The Balfour Building is located at the Northeast corner of Spadina Avenue and Adelaide Street in downtown Toronto, Ontario, Canada, close to the Financial and Entertainment districts, Gardiner Expressway, and the LRT. It was named after Arthur J. Balfour, author of the "Balfour Declaration" in 1917, whose goal was for the British government to support a Jewish homeland in Palestine. The high-rise was built originally for the Schiffer-Hillman Clothing Company; it was managed by numerous Jewish clothing companies in its early years. Presently, the Balfour Building is a historical tower landmark of Art Deco style in the 1930s. Elevators were installed by Otis-Fensom of Hamilton.
