''Baleydier'' is a 1932 French comedy film directed by Jean Mamy and starring Michel Simon, Josseline Gaël and Jean Gehret.Rège p.433 The film's sets were designed by the art director Gabriel Scognamillo. Synopsis Baleydier, a hairdresser, wins a competition which allows him to star in a major historical film then under production. During filming everyone makes fun of him becomes of his simple ways and expects the film to be a disaster. Instead, on its release, it becomes a huge hit as people mistake it for a comedy. Michel Simon
Michel Simon (; 9 April 1895 – 30 May 1975) was a Swiss-French actor. He appeared in many notable French films, including ''La Chienne'' (1931), ''Boudu Saved from Drowning'' (1932), '' L'Atalante'' (1934), '' Port of Shadows'' (1938), '' The Head'' (1959), and '' The Train'' (1964). Early years Simon was born on 9 April 1895 in Geneva, Switzerland to a Catholic butcher and a Protestant mother. He left his family and moved to Paris, where he first lived at the Hotel Renaissance, Saint-Martin Street, then in Montmartre. He worked many different jobs to survive, such as giving boxing lessons and peddling smuggled lighters. His career began modestly in 1912, working as a magician, clown, acrobat, and stooge in a dancers' show called "Ribert's and Simon's", in the Montreuil-sous-Bois Casino. Josseline Gaël (born Jeannine Augustine Jeanne Blanleuil; 4 February 1917 – 10 August 1995) was a French actress who specialised in comedy roles. She is best remembered for her portrayal of Cosette in the 1934 film adaptation of Les Misérables. Her daughter with Jules Berry, Michèle, became a renowned art dealer. Jean Mamy (8 July 1912, Chambéry, Savoie – 29 March 1949, Arcueil) was a French actor, producer, film and theatre director, screenwriter, film editor, and journalist, notable for directing the anti-Masonic propaganda film ''Forces occultes'' under the pseudonym "Paul Riche". He belonged to the inter-war left, acting in René Clair's 1924 Dada film '' Entr'acte'' and editing Jean Renoir's 1931 ''On purge bébé''. Subsequently, he directed a number of films in the series "''Une heure d'angoisse''" based on the novels written by Marcel Allain for the Éditions Ferenczi.
