Babadag (; ,  "Father Mountain"), formerly known as Babatag, is a town in Tulcea County, Romania, located on a small lake formed by the river Taița, in the densely wooded highlands of Northern Dobruja. One of the several tombs of Sari Saltik is found in town. The is divided only by a strip of marshland from Razim Lake, a broad landlocked sheet of water spilling into the Black Sea. History The name of Babadag is connected with 13th century dervish Baba Sari Saltik, who is said to have led a number of Turkomans to Dobruja and to have settled them in this area. The town was first mentioned by Ibn Battuta under the name Baba Saltuk, as the furthermost outpost of the "Turks" (i.e., the Golden Horde). The town was conquered by Bayezid I, sultan of the Ottoman Empire, in his 1393 Danubian campaign. Babadağ, formerly ''Kadıköy'', is a municipality and Districts of Turkey, district of Denizli Province, Turkey. Its area is 124 km2, and its population is 6,340 (2022). It is a highland town, reached by a steep, winding road uphill from the town of Sarayköy. It was known in antiquity as Salbacos. Agriculture is hard on this mountainside and thus the people have been making a living from stitching clothing in Babadağ for a long time, and others have migrated to Denizli, İzmir and Istanbul. Babadağ in Denizli Province is one of two mountains in Turkey with the same name, which translates into English as "Father Mountain". The other Babadağ mountain is in Muğla Province on the Aegean Sea. Both are part of the Taurus Mountains. The summit of the Babadağ in Denizli Province is located 23 km away in southwestern direction from Denizli, the capital of the province.
