Ba (town)
Ba () is a town in Fiji, 37 kilometres from Lautoka and 62 kilometres from Nadi, inland from the coast of Viti Levu, Fiji's largest island. Covering an area of 327 square kilometres, it had a population of 14,596 at the 1996 census. The town is built on the banks of the Ba River, after which it is named. For a long time, Ba was famous for its soccer team which caused major traffic problems. The old bridge was washed away in the floods of 1990s and a new bridge built downstream. This resulted in the main highway (King's Road) bypassing Ba. Jiaxing City in China is Ba’s sister city. Economy Ba is an agricultural centre, with a population consisting mainly of Indo-Fijians, which makes it a cultural attraction for tourists. Sugar cane has long been the mainstay of the local economy, but some manufacturing projects have been established over the past fifteen years. In many countries, a mayor is the highest-ranking official in a Municipal corporation, municipal government such as that of a city or a town. Battle Of The Giants (Fiji)
The Battle Of The Giants (BoG) is a football competition held every year, under the auspices of the Fiji Football Association in which the top district teams take part. The competition, which started in 1978, was due to the foresight of J.D. Maharaj, who saw it as a way of earning money for cash starved football associations in Fiji. This was the first time that a football competition in Fiji was sponsored by businesses. Champion Versus Champion
Champion versus Champion (CVC) is a football tournament organised in Fiji by the Fiji Football Association. This pair of home-and-away games are played as a season opener. In the old format the National Football League winner played the Inter-district Championship winner and in case these are the same team, the winner of the Battle of the Giants played. However, beginning at the start of 2010 season, winners of all the major tournaments in the Super Premier League, take part in this championship. In 2010, Ba (''2009 Battle of the Giants Champion''), Lautoka (''2009 National League Champion'') and Navua (''2009 IDC and Fiji FACT Champion'') took part in this home-away round robin game series. The team registering the highest number of points, (and in case of a tie, the best goal difference) is the winner of the title. Mosque
A mosque ( ), also called a masjid ( ), is a place of worship for Muslims. The term usually refers to a covered building, but can be any place where Salah, Islamic prayers are performed; such as an outdoor courtyard. Parveen Bala
Parveen Kumar Bala is a Fijian politician and former Cabinet Minister. He served as Mayor of Ba from 1997 to 2009, and in the Cabinet of Frank Bainimarama from 2014 to 2022. He is a former president of the Fiji Local Government Association. Local government Bala was first elected Mayor of Ba in 1997, becoming the youngest mayor in the country. He held the position for 12 years, until the military regime disestablished elected local government following the 2006 Fijian coup d'état. Bala was also an unsuccessful National Federation Party candidate for the House of Representatives in the 2001 election. He polled 28 percent of the vote in the Ba East Indian Communal Constituency. The National Federation Party ( Fiji Hindi: नेशनल फेडरेशन पार्टी; Fijian: ''Mataisoqosoqo ni National Federation'') is a Fijian political party founded by A. D. Patel in November 1968, as a merger of the Federation Party and the National Democratic Party. Though it claims to represent all Fiji Islanders, it is supported, in practice, almost exclusively by Indo-Fijians whose ancestors had come to Fiji between 1879 and 1916, mostly as indentured labourers. 2005 Fijian Municipal Election
Local elections were held in Fiji on 22 October 2005 to elect the councils of eleven municipalities. In Suva, the elections for the Suva City Council were postponed until 12 November 2005 due to the death of two candidates; the death of a candidate in Lautoka also resulted in the poll postponement in one of the four wards. The newly elected councils of most municipalities selected their Mayors on or before 28 October. However, Suva and Lautoka selected their Mayors in mid-November after voting was completed. The Mayoralty changed hands in six municipalities, as party political control changed hands in the Councils of Lami, Labasa, Levuka, Savusavu, and Nasinu. Ahmed Bhamji
Ahmed Bhamji is a Fiji Indian businessman and National Federation Party politician. Career At 32 he became the youngest mayor in the country when he was elected the mayor of Ba. In the 1987 general election for the House of Representatives, he won the North Eastern National Constituency for the National Federation Party - Fiji Labour Party coalition, defeating the sitting Alliance Party candidate by 12,786 votes to 9,946. He became Minister for Communications, Transport and Works in the month-long Bavadra government. Following the 1987 Fijian coups d'état, he immigrated to New Zealand, and now lives in Auckland New Zealand. As of March 2019 he is the chairman of Mt Roskill Masjid E Umar; the largest mosque in New Zealand. Ba () is a province of Fiji, occupying the north-western sector of Viti Levu, Fiji's largest island. It is one of fourteen provinces in the nation of Fiji, and one of eight based in Viti Levu. It is Fiji's most populous province, with a population of 247,708 – more than a quarter of the nation's total – at the 2017 census. It covers a land area of , the largest of any province.
