BWF World Championships
The BWF World Championships is a badminton tournament organized by the Badminton World Federation. It's the most prestigious badminton competition, offering the most ranking points, along with the Summer Olympics badminton events introduced in 1992. The winners of the tournament are World Champions of the sport and are awarded a gold medal. The tournament started in 1977 and was held once every three years until 1983. However, the International Badminton Federation faced difficulty in hosting the first two events as the World Badminton Federation, which later merged with the IBF to form one badminton federation, hosted the same tournament a year after the IBF World Championships with the same goals. Since 1985, the tournament became biennial and played once every two years until 2005. Starting 2006, the tournament was changed to an annual event on the BWF calendar. Badminton World Federation
The Badminton World Federation, aka BWF, is the international governing body for the sport of badminton approved by the International Olympic Committee. It was founded on 5 July 1934 as the International Badminton Federation with nine member nations: Canada, Denmark, England, France, Ireland, Netherlands, New Zealand, Scotland and Wales. In 1981, the IBF merged with the World Badminton Federation, and on 24 September 2006, at the Extraordinary General Meeting in Madrid, the name of the organization was changed to Badminton World Federation. When the BWF was founded, its head office was located in Cheltenham, UK. It was then relocated to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia on October 1, 2005. 2007 BWF World Championships
The 2007 BWF World Championships was the 16th tournament of BWF World Championships (World Badminton Championships). It was held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, from 13 to 19 August 2007. Host city selection Aarhus and Kuala Lumpur were the candidates for hosting the championships. Kuala Lumpur was later announced as the host during 2005 IBF council meeting in Beijing. 2003 IBF World Championships
The 2003 IBF World Championships ( World Badminton Championships) were held in the National Indoor Arena, Birmingham, United Kingdom, between 28 July and 3 August 2003. The championships had originally been planned to take place from 12 May-18 May, but were rescheduled following the international outbreak of SARS. This edition also rewarded the points for the players to collected for the qualification to 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens, Greece. Host city selection International Badminton Federation decided to split the IBF World Championships and the Sudirman Cup as separate tournaments starting from 2003. Canada, China, England, Hong Kong, and the Netherlands were the countries interested in hosting the tournaments. England later announced as host for the first standalone world championships. 2001 IBF World Championships
The 2001 IBF World Championships, also known as the World Badminton Championships, were held in the ''Palacio de Deportes de San Pablo'', Seville, Spain, between 3 June and 10 June 2001. Host city selection Eindhoven, Seville, and Seoul submitted bids to host the championships. The Korean bid was withdrawn at the last minute. Seville was announced as the host by International Badminton Federation during a council meeting in Copenhagen. 1999 IBF World Championships
The 1999 IBF World Championships ( World Badminton Championships) were held in Copenhagen, Denmark, between 10 May and 23 May 1999. During men's single semi final match between Fung Permadi and Peter Gade, a historical decision was made by Permadi. The score was 14 all in the third set with Gade held the match point. Commonly, a serve receiver will opt for deuce. At odds Permadi refused it. Disturbed with the peculiar, Gade fouled his serve then returned Permadi's serve to the net and lost the match by the score 14-15. The same scenario happened in the women final match. Camilla Martin chose not to play the deuce and won against Dai Yun. She was engaged to Gade then and subsequently avenged for her fiancée.
