BIT Numerical Mathematics
''BIT Numerical Mathematics'' is a quarterly peer-reviewed mathematics journal that covers research in numerical analysis. It was established in 1961 by Carl Erik Fröberg and is published by Springer Science+Business Media. The name "BIT" is a reverse acronym of ''Tidskrift för Informationsbehandling'' ( Swedish: ''Journal of Information Processing''). Previous editors-in-chief have been Carl Erik Fröberg (1961-1992), Åke Björck (1993-2002), Axel Ruhe (2003-2015), and Lars Eldén (2016). the editor-in-chief is Gunilla Kreiss. Peter Naur served as a member of the editorial board between the years 1960 and 1993, and Germund Dahlquist between 1962 and 1991. Gunilla Kreiss
Gunilla Kreiss (born 1958) is a Swedish applied mathematician and numerical analyst specializing in level-set methods and numerical methods for partial differential equations, especially for problems arising in fluid dynamics including two-phase flow, shear flow, and Burgers' equation. She is professor of numerical analysis in the Department of Information Technology, Division of Scientific Computing at Uppsala University, and editor-in-chief of '' BIT Numerical Mathematics''. Education and career Kreiss became interested in numerical analysis while studying civil engineering at the KTH Royal Institute of Technology. She earned a master's degree in applied mathematics there in 1982, and completed her PhD in 1986, with the dissertation ''Analytical and numerical studies of the convergence to steady state of solutions of two model problems of fluid dynamics'' jointly supervised by Germund Dahlquist and Björn Engquist. The impact factor (IF) or journal impact factor (JIF) of an academic journal is a scientometric index calculated by Clarivate that reflects the yearly mean number of citations of articles published in the last two years in a given journal, as indexed by Clarivate's Web of Science. ''Current Contents'' is a rapid alerting service database from Clarivate Analytics, formerly the Institute for Scientific Information and Thomson Reuters. It is published online and in several different printed subject sections. History ''Current Contents'' was first published in paper format, in a single edition devoted only to biology and medicine. Other subject editions were added later. Initially, it consisted simply of a reproduction of the title pages from several hundred major peer-reviewed scientific journals, and was published weekly, with the issues containing title pages from journal issues only a few weeks previously, a shorter time lag than any service then available. There was an author index and a crude keyword subject index only. Author addresses were provided so readers could send reprint requests for copies of the actual articles.
