BasketballClub Luleå is a professional basketball club from Luleå, Sweden that competes in the Basketligan. The team has won the Swedish championship 8 times. History The club was founded in 1976 as ''Plannja Basket''. From 1996 till 2007 Plannja won 7 Swedish titles, the only season they didn't win it was the 2002–03 season. Until the 2012–2013 season LF Basket played its home games in the Pontushallen, which held a capacity of 3,000. The club then moved to the ARCUS Arena during the 2012–2013 season due to reconstructions. Starting with the 2013–2014 season it has moved back, although the new name of the Pontushallen arena is Luleå Energi Arena. In 2015, LF Basket changed its name to BC Luleå. Svenska Basketligan, or the Swedish Basketball League (SBL), is the premier league for professional basketball in Sweden. The league was originally established in 1992 as Basketligan and was known as that prior to the season of 2006–07, but when the Swedish company Obol Investment signed an agreement with the Swedish Basketball Federation in early October 2006, the league was renamed Obol Basketball League (OBL). In January 2007 the name was changed to Ligan, meaning simply the League. 2015–16 Basketligan Season
The 2015–16 Basketligan season was the 23rd season of the Basketligan, the top tier basketball league on Sweden. The season started on 15 October 2015 and ended on 28 April 2016. Södertälje Kings was the defending champion, and successfully reclaimed its title. In the Finals, Södertalje had a clean sweep over Norrköping 4–0 to capture its 11th title. Competition format The participating teams first play a conventional round-robin schedule with every team playing each opponent three times for a total of 30 games. The top eight teams qualified for the championship playoffs. Current teams Regular season Playoffs Awards On 4 April 2016, Joakim Kjellbom of Norrköping Dolphins won his third Basketligan MVP Award. 2017–18 Basketball Champions League
The 2017–18 Basketball Champions League was the second season of the Basketball Champions League (BCL), a European-wide professional basketball competition for clubs, that was launched by FIBA. The competition began on 19 September 2017, with the qualifying rounds, and concluded on 6 May 2018. The Final Four, which was held 4–6 May, was hosted at the Olympic Indoor Hall in Athens, Greece.
