BBC Urdu ( ur, ) is the Urdu language station of the BBC World Service, accompanied by its website, which serves as a news portal and provides online access to radio broadcasts. The radio service is broadcast from Broadcasting House in London and Pakistan as well as from a BBC South & east asia bureau in New Delhi. It also has a children’s channel CBeebies. The BBC World Service is an international broadcasting, international broadcaster owned and operated by the BBC, with funding from the Government of the United Kingdom, British Government through the Foreign Secretary, Foreign Secretary's office. It is the world's largest external broadcaster in terms of reception area, language selection and audience reach. Broadcasting House
Broadcasting House is the headquarters of the BBC, in Portland Place and Langham Place, London. The first radio broadcast from the building was made on 15 March 1932, and the building was officially opened two months later, on 15 May. The main building is in Art Deco style, with a facing of Portland stone over a steel frame. It is a Grade II* listed building and includes the BBC Radio Theatre, where music and speech programmes are recorded in front of a studio audience. As part of a major consolidation of the BBC's property portfolio in London, Broadcasting House has been extensively renovated and extended. This involved the demolition of post-war extensions on the eastern side of the building, replaced by a new wing completed in 2005. CBeebies is a British free-to-air public broadcast children's television channel owned and operated by the BBC. It is also the brand used for all BBC content for children aged 6 years and under. Sairbeen ( ur, سیربین) is a flagship news and current affairs programme produced by BBC Urdu, currently being distributed on online platforms including YouTube. It is currently hosted by Aliya Nazki. The show first began airing in 1968 on radio, and was previously hosted by notable Pakistani broadcasters and journalists including Suraiya Shahab, Shafi Naqi Jamie, Mahpara Safdar, Ghazala Yasmeen, Waqar Ahmad Khan, Adil Shahzeb, Aamir Ahmad Khan, Ahmad Raza and Amber Shamsi. This programme is broadcast from London by BBC Urdu. History With its start in 1968, it acquired a huge following in Pakistan. Abbas Nasir is Pakistani journalist and former editor of Pakistan's English language daily ''DAWN''. Previously he was the head of the BBC Urdu Service, where he has been appointed as Executive Editor for the Asia and the Pacific Region at BBC World Service. Nasir began his journalism career in the early 1980s at the daily newspapers ''Dawn'' and ''Muslim''. He later joined the monthly current affairs magazine ''Herald''. In May 1994 he joined the BBC Urdu Service while also serving as the chief political correspondent with the English daily ''The News International ''The News International'', published in broadsheet size, is one of the largest English language newspapers in Pakistan.
