BBC London is the BBC English Region producing local radio, television, teletext and online services in London, Surrey and parts of the surrounding areas of the Home Counties. Its output includes the daily '' BBC London'' news bulletin and weekly '' Sunday Politics'' on television, the BBC Radio London radio station and local coverage of the London area on BBC Online and BBC Red Button. The region's headquarters are situated in the new eastern extension of the BBC's Broadcasting House. Crystal Palace Transmitting Station
The Crystal Palace transmitting station, officially known as Arqiva Crystal Palace, is a broadcasting and telecommunications site in the Crystal Palace, London, Crystal Palace area of the London Borough of Bromley, England (). It is located on the site of the former television station and transmitter operated by John Logie Baird from 1933. The station is the list of tallest buildings and structures in London, eighth-tallest structure in London, and is best known as the main television transmitter for the Greater London area and parts of the surrounding Home Counties. As such, it is the most important transmitter in the UK in terms of population covered. The transmitter is owned and operated by Arqiva. ''BBC Breakfast'' is a British television breakfast news programme, produced by BBC News and broadcast on BBC One every morning from 6:00am. It is also broadcast on the UK feed of BBC News channel on weekends. BBC One
BBC One is a British free-to-air public broadcast television channel owned and operated by the BBC. It is the corporation's oldest and flagship channel, and is known for broadcasting mainstream programming, which includes BBC News television bulletins, primetime drama and entertainment, and live BBC Sport events. The channel was launched on 2 November 1936 under the name BBC Television Service, which was the world's first regular television service with a high level of image resolution. BBC Red Button
BBC Red Button is a brand used for digital interactive television services provided by the BBC, and broadcast in the United Kingdom. The services replaced Ceefax, the BBC's analogue teletext service. BBC Red Button's text services were due to close on 30 January 2020, but the switch-off was suspended on 29 January 2020 following protests. History and branding The service was launched on 23 September 1999 as BBC Text. It was relaunched in November 2001 under the BBCi brand and operated under this name until late 2008, when it was rebranded as BBC Red Button. The "red button" name refers to the common interface on remote controls for digital televisions and set-top boxes, a red push-button that launches digital teletext services. ''Daily Politics'' is a BBC Television programme which aired between 6 January 2003 and 24 July 2018, presented by Andrew Neil and Jo Coburn. ''Daily Politics'' took an in-depth review of the daily events in both Westminster and other areas across Britain and abroad, and included interviews with leading politicians and political commentators. The final episode of ''Daily Politics'' broadcast was on 24 July 2018. On 2 September 2018 it was replaced by '' Politics Live.'' However, the regional opt-out edition, ''Sunday Politics'', continued as a Sunday morning talk show until 27 December 2020. The ''Sunday Politics'' brand continues to be used in Northern Ireland. ''BBC London'' is the BBC's regional television news programme for Greater London and its surrounding areas of the Home Counties. The bulletin is broadcast seven days a week on BBC One in London and the surrounding areas. On weekdays, three-minute updates are aired during ''BBC Breakfast'', a 10-minute bulletin airs at 1:35pm during the ''BBC News at One'', and a 15-minute bulletin airs after the ''BBC News at Ten''. The flagship programme airs between 6.30pm and 7pm each weekday after the ''BBC News at Six'' and is usually presented by Riz Lateef. Weekend bulletins are broadcast on Saturday and Sunday evenings. BBC Three Counties Radio is the BBC's local radio station serving the counties of Bedfordshire, Hertfordshire and Buckinghamshire. It broadcasts on FM, DAB, digital TV and via BBC Sounds from studios at Grove Park in Dunstable. BBC Radio Essex
BBC Essex is the BBC's local radio station serving the county of Essex. It broadcasts on FM, DAB, digital TV and via BBC Sounds from studios on New London Road in Chelmsford. According to RAJAR, the station has a weekly audience of 136,000 listeners as of May 2025. History BBC Essex launched on 5 November 1986. It broke from the naming convention of "BBC ''Radio'' (county name)" so as to avoid confusion with Essex Radio (later Essex FM, now Heart Essex). BBC Radio Berkshire
BBC Radio Berkshire is the BBC's local radio station serving the county of Berkshire. It broadcasts on FM, DAB, digital TV and via BBC Sounds. According to RAJAR, the station has a weekly audience of 48,00 listeners as of May 2025. It has studios at Thames Valley Park near Reading. History BBC Radio Berkshire was launched on 21 January 1992 as a part-time station, broadcasting for part of the weekday and weekend mornings with BBC Radio Oxford carried at all other times. Due to financial cutbacks, BBC Director-General John Birt announced that the station was to fully merge with BBC Radio Oxford on 9 April 1996 to become BBC Thames Valley FM.
