The Azerbaijan Navy ( az, Azərbaycan Hərbi Dəniz Qüvvələri) is the naval component of the Azerbaijani Armed Forces operating in the Caspian Sea. History The inception of Azerbaijani Naval Forces dates back to August 5, 1919, when the government of the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic established the navy force on the basis of the Russian Imperial fleet deployed in the Azerbaijani sector of the Caspian Sea. The navy had 6 ships. After the establishment of Soviet rule in Azerbaijan, the navy was transferred to be under the jurisdiction of the Soviet Navy. In 1991, with the collapse of the Soviet Union, the Azerbaijani fleet of the Soviet Navy was divided between Azerbaijan and the Russian Federation. In July 1992, the Azerbaijani ships were put into operation under Azerbaijani Flag in the Azerbaijani sector of the Caspian Sea. Azerbaijan (, ; az, Azərbaycan ), officially the Republic of Azerbaijan, , also sometimes officially called the Azerbaijan Republic is a transcontinental country located at the boundary of Eastern Europe and Western Asia. The president of the Republic of Azerbaijan is the head of state of Azerbaijan. The Constitution states that the president is the embodiment of executive power, commander-in-chief, "representative of Azerbaijan in home and foreign policies", and "shall have the right of immunity rom prosecution" The president rules through his executive office, the Presidential Administration, consisting of a group of secretaries and departmental ministers. The State Border Service of Azerbaijan Republic ( az, Azərbaycan Respublikası Dövlət Sərhəd Xidməti), also known as Border Guard of Azerbaijan, is a governmental law enforcement agency in charge of protecting the borders of Azerbaijan. The Chief of State Border Service and Commander of Border Troops is Colonel-General Elchin Guliyev. 641st Naval Special Operations Brigade
The 641st Naval Special Operations Brigade ( az, 641-ci Xüsusi Dəniz Əməliyyatları Briqadası) is a special forces unit in the Azerbaijani Navy. It is currently based in Zığ. The unit has been described as an 'impressive new maritime special forces unit. It's polygon is on Wulf Island in the Bay of Baku. The modern unit was established in 2001 with the cooperation of the Turkish Navy. Cooperation The training and organization structure of the unit may be similar to Turkish special forces, Su Altı Taarruz and United States Special Forces who have a training relationship with them. In 2004, a U.S. Navy SEAL team from Little Creek Amphibious Base, participated in joint exercises unit. The Marine Infantry Battalion ( az, Dəniz Piyada Taburu) is a naval infantry military unit of the Republic of Azerbaijan. It serves in combat operations an amphibious assault force of the Azerbaijani Navy. It is currently based in Zığ. It's polygon is on Wulf Island in the Bay of Baku. Overview Due to a need for extra troops on the front lines of the First Nagorno-Karabakh War, a Marine Regiment was formed from the personnel of the naval and ground units of the Naval Forces. The regiment was sent on 19 April 1994 to the front in order to prevent an enemy offensive in the Aghdam, returning on 25 July upon the successful completion of its combat mission. The Soviet Border Troops (russian: Пограничные войска СССР, Pogranichnyye voyska SSSR) were the border guard of the Soviet Union, subordinated to the Soviet state security agency: first to the ''Cheka''/State Political Directorate, OGPU, then to NKVD/Ministry for State Security (USSR), MGB and, finally, to the KGB. ''Jane's Fighting Ships'' by Janes Information Services is an annual reference book of information on all the world's warships arranged by nation, including information on ships' names, dimensions, armaments, silhouettes and photographs, etc. Each edition describes and illustrates warships of different national naval and paramilitary forces, providing data on their characteristics.
