Australian Country Music
Australian country music is a part of the music of Australia. There is a broad range of styles, from bluegrass, to yodeling to folk to the more popular. The genre has been influenced by Celtic and English folk music, the Australian bush ballad tradition, as well as by popular American country music. Themes include: outback life, the lives of stockmen, truckers and outlaws, songs of romance and of political protest; and songs about the "beauty and the terror" of the Australian bush. Early pioneers of the genre included Tex Morton, Smoky Dawson (touted as Australia's first singing cowboy), Buddy Williams, Slim Dusty and Johnny Ashcroft and Reg Lindsay all members of the Australian Roll of Renown. The award honours Australian and New Zealander musicians who have shaped the music industry by making a significant and lasting contribution to Country Music. Lionel Long
Lionel Joaquin Paul Long OAM (1939 – 1 January 1998) was an Australian country and folk singer, songwriter, guitarist, actor and artist. Long became one of Australia's most successful and popular country and folk artists in the 1960s, releasing over a dozen albums for EMI. He was also well known for his acting appearances on television programs such as '' Homicide''. Early life Lionel Long was born in Burwood, New South Wales to Ernest Sydney and Aileen G.H. Jean Stafford born January 1, 1950 is an Australian country music icon. In a career spanning more than five decades in country music, she has released multiple gold and platinum selling albums along with her early hits such as “What Kind of a Girl (Do You Think I Am)”, “ Hello, Love” and “ That Glory Bound Train”. Joy McKean
Joy McKean , (born 14 January 1930), is an Australian country music singer-songwriter and wife and manager of the late Slim Dusty. Known as the "grand lady" of Australian country music, McKean is recognised as one of Australia's leading songwriters and bush balladeers and wrote several of Dusty's most popular songs. In 1973, she was awarded the first ever Golden Guitar, for writing " Lights on the Hill". She was inducted into the Australian Roll of Renown in 1983. Steve Forde is an Australian country music artist and host of ''Rollin with...'' on the Country Music Channel. Biography Early years Steve Forde was born in the regional farming centre of Cowra, New South Wales in 1977. Steve spent most of his early childhood moving from town to town across NSW with his family. He is a singer, a songwriter and a touring country star. Christie Lamb (born 1992) is an English-born, Australian country singer-songwriter. Lamb has released four studio albums. Early life Lamb was born in England and moved to Australia at 6 years of age. She found her love for the stage through dance lessons and began playing flute at primary school, before commencing piano and vocal lessons at age of ten.
