The Australian Ballet School is the premier ballet training facility in Australia, located in Melbourne. History The Australian Ballet School was founded in 1964 as the primary training facility for The Australian Ballet by Dame Margaret Scott. Location It is part of the Australian Ballet Centre, which is located in the Melbourne Arts Precinct, Southbank in Melbourne, Victoria. Governance and funding The school is a registered charity, with about a third of its income provided by the Australian Government, about a third by tuition fees (33%), and the rest via philanthropy, corporate support and box office. Madeleine Eastoe
Madeleine Eastoe is an Australian retired ballet dancer. She was a principal dancer at The Australian Ballet. Biography Eastoe started ballet at age six, in Perth, Australia. In 1994, Eastoe moved to Melbourne to study at the Australian Ballet School. She joined The Australian Ballet in 1997. She had some opportunities early on, including filling in for a soloist to dance ''Tschaikovsky Pas de Deux'' with David McAllister. Eastoe was promoted to principal dancer in 2004, after debut as the title role in ''Giselle''. Ann Burbrook
Ann Burbrook, sometimes credited as Annie Burbrook, (born 23 November 1965 in Jesselton, Sabah, Malaysia), is an Australian actress. Early life Burbrook trained at the Australian Ballet School and the WA Academy of Performing Arts before dancing with a number of ballet companies in Australia. In 1986 she moved to Brisbane to dance with the Queensland Ballet. After her ballet career was cut short, she made the transition from dancing to acting through an association with La Boite Theatre in Brisbane. Stephen Baynes (born 1956 in Adelaide, South Australia) has been Resident Choreographer with The Australian Ballet since 1995. He trained with Joanne Priest and graduated from The Australian Ballet School in 1975. Gailene Stock CBE AM (28 January 194629 April 2014) was an Australian-born ballerina, teacher and Director of the Royal Ballet School in Covent Garden. Early years Gailene Patricia Stock was born in Ballarat, Victoria. She was the second of three daughters to Roy and Sylvia. She began dancing from the age of three. However, she contracted polio at the age of 8, which left her hospital in an iron frame for 18 months. Remarkably, she was back dancing again by the time she was 12, attending the school of Paul Hammond, formerly a leading soloist with the Borovansky Ballet.
