Aunt Clara (film)
''Aunt Clara'' is a 1954 British comedy film starring Margaret Rutherford as a woman who inherits a number of shady businesses from a relative. Ronald Shiner, A. E. Matthews, and Fay Compton are also featured. The film was based on the 1952 novel of the same name by author Noel Streatfeild, and directed by Anthony Kimmins for London Films. It was shot at Shepperton Studios near London. The film's sets were designed by the art director Paul Sheriff. Plot Clara Hilton is a shrewd, but kindly old lady mostly ignored by the rest of her family. When her cantankerous uncle Simon dies, he unexpectedly leaves her the bulk of his considerable estate - his house, six racing greyhounds, a crooked game, a pub and a brothel - because she alone would see to the well-being of those dependent on him. Anthony Kimmins
Anthony Martin Kimmins, OBE (10 November 1901 – 19 May 1964) was an English director, playwright, screenwriter, producer and actor. Biography Kimmins was born in Harrow, London on 10 November 1901, the son of the social activists Charles William Kimmins and Grace Kimmins. He served in the Royal Navy, and upon leaving the navy he became an actor. In 1932, he wrote the comedy play ''While Parents Sleep'' which had a long run in the West End. In 1935, another of his plays '' Chase the Ace'' was staged. His first directorial assignment was ''Keep Fit'' (1937). with George Formby. During World War II, he returned to the Navy achieving the rank of Commander. In 1941, he took part in Operation Claymore a successful Commando raid in Norway. During the success of the raid, Kimmins is said to have gone skiing on a nearby slope out of boredom, according to John Durnford-Slater. Epsom Downs
Epsom Downs is an area of chalk downland, chalk upland near Epsom, Surrey; in the North Downs. Part of the area is taken up by the Epsom Downs Racecourse, racecourse, the gallops are part of the land purchased by Stanly Wootton in 1925 and are open to users such as walking, ramblers, model aircraft flyers, golfers and cyclists. Since January 2006 model aircraft flyers on the Downs have been required to be members of the Epsom Downs Model Aircraft Club. There are over 20 km of routeways for hack (horse), hack riders. There are bylaws for the use of the Downs. There are panoramic views of London to the north from the Downs. Eileen Way
Eileen Mabel Elizabeth Way (2 September 1911 – 16 June 1994) was a British actress who appeared in film and television roles in a career dating back to the 1930s. She trained at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art from the age of 16. She was in some of the first productions of Tennessee Williams' plays in Great Britain, including playing the role of the Mexican Woman in ''A Streetcar Named Desire'', and appeared at the Bristol Old Vic and Nottingham Playhouse. She appeared in the TV series ''Doctor Who'', in the serials ''An Unearthly Child'' (as Old Mother, the programme's first on-screen death) and ''The Creature from the Pit'' (as Karela), as well as in the 1966 film ''Daleks' Invasion Earth 2150 A.D.'' Ronald Ward
Ronald Ward (5 April 1901 – 31 March 1978) was a British actor who, alongside his stage work, appeared in more than twenty British films between 1931 and 1956. He was born in Eastbourne in 1901 as Ronald William Ward, and made his screen debut in the 1931 film ''Alibi''. One of his biggest roles was in the popular Vera Lynn vehicle ''We'll Meet Again'' (1943), where he was effectively the male lead (although he was billed fourth), co-starring with Lynn and Patricia Roc. His final marriage was to the actress Betty Baskcomb; and he was father of photographer Michael Ward.
