The Auckland Warriors 1996 season was the Auckland Warriors 2nd season in first-grade. The club competed in Australasia's Australian Rugby League competition. The coach of the team was John Monie while Greg Alexander was the club's captain. Instead Super League was scheduled to start on 1 March 1996. Legal proceedings had been ongoing between the ARL and News Ltd since 1995 and on 23 February 1996 Justice James Burchett ruled the new Super League competition to be illegal. John Monie
John Stephen Monie (born 6 October 1946) is an Australian former professional rugby league footballer who played in the 1960s and 1970s, and coached in the 1980s, 1990s and 2000s. He is probably best known for his coaching career where he won premierships in both Australia and England. Playing career Monie was a Standoff who played for his local club on the Central Coast, Woy Woy. After playing in over 100 first grade games for Woy Woy, in 1968 he moved to the Cronulla-Sutherland Sharks. In 1968, in a game against Newtown, he became the first Cronulla player to score four tries in a match. He was named the Sharks' Player of the Year in 1969. The Cronulla-Sutherland Sharks are an Australian professional rugby league club based in Cronulla, in the Sutherland Shire, Southern Sydney, New South Wales. Queensland State Rugby League Team
The Queensland rugby league team represents the Australian state of Queensland in rugby league football. The New South Wales rugby league team has represented the Australian state of New South Wales in rugby league football since the sport's beginnings there in 1907. Frank Endacott
Frank Morris Endacott , also known by the nickname of "Happy Frank", is a New Zealand former professional rugby league footballer, and coach. Background His son, Shane, also played rugby league. Playing career Endacott played for Addington and Hornby in the Canterbury Rugby League competition. He made the Junior Kiwis in 1963, but after marrying and having a family of four sons decided not to take his rugby league playing career any further. Coaching in New Zealand Endacott started coaching Canterbury provincial sides in New Zealand before becoming involved with the Auckland Warriors, coaching the reserve side in the club's debut year in 1995. He continued with this role until John Monie was sacked as head coach halfway through the 1997 Super League season.
