Aslan (band)
Aslan are an Irish rock band from Dublin who formed in 1982. Composed of Christy Dignam, Joe Jewell, Billy McGuinness, Alan Downey, the band has released six studio albums: ''Feel No Shame'' (1988), ''Goodbye Charlie Moonhead'' (1994), ''Here Comes Lucy Jones'' (1997), ''Waiting For This Madness To End'' (2001), ''For Some Strange Reason'' (2007) and ''Nudie Books and Frenchies'' (2012). History Aslan took their name from the fictional lion in C.S. Lewis's series of books chronicling the land of Narnia (Aslan is the Turkish word for "Lion"). The band came from the working class areas of Finglas and Ballymun in Dublin's Northside, in the mid-1980s. They released a demo single, "This Is", in the spring of 1986. Finglas
Finglas (; ) is a northwestern outer suburb of Dublin, Ireland. It lies close to Junction 5 of the M50 motorway, and the N2 road. Nearby suburbs include Glasnevin and Ballymun; Dublin Airport is to the north. Finglas lies mainly in the postal district of Dublin 11. Picturehouse are a band from Dublin, Ireland. The band are most famous for their song "Sunburst" from the album ''Karmarama'' in Ireland. History PictureHouse is the brainchild of Dave Browne. Originally signed to London Records in 1994, a rather tumultuous time resulted in the band returning to their native Dublin. They self-financed the release of their debut album "Shine Box". The album produced a number of popular singles such as "Somebody Somewhere", "The World and His Dog" and the smash hit "Heavenly Day". With success in their native Ireland the band toured with fellow Irish band The Saw Doctors on their UK tour in 1996. They later supported Bon Jovi in Dublin in the following year. Point Theatre
The Point Theatre (sometimes referred to as the Point Depot or simply as the Point) was a concert and events venue in Dublin, Ireland, that operated from 1988 to 2007, visited by in excess of 2 million people. It was located on the North Wall Quay of the River Liffey, amongst the Dublin Docklands. The Point was closed in the middle of 2007 for a major redevelopment and underwent a rebranding as The O2 in July 2008. Prior to the redevelopment, the seated capacity was 6,300; the rebranded O2 has a fully seated only capacity of 9,000. Following the acquisition of O2 Ireland by 3 Ireland, it was renamed in September 2014 as the 3Arena. Vicar Street
Vicar Street is a concert, performing arts centre and events venue in Dublin, Ireland. Located on Thomas Street, Dublin 8, Vicar Street has capacity for 1,050 people for seated performances and 1,500 people for standing gigs. The venue is owned by Harry Crosbie and operated by Peter Aiken. Since opening in 1998, the venue has become a popular setting for a wide range of acts including stand-up comedy, drama performances and a variety of concerts. The Irish Singles Chart is the Republic of Ireland's music industry standard singles popularity chart issued weekly by the Irish Recorded Music Association (IRMA) and compiled on their behalf by the Official Charts Company. Chart rankings are based on sales, which are compiled through over-the-counter retail data captured electronically each day from retailers' EPOS systems. All major record shops, digital retailers and streaming services contribute to the chart, accounting for over 95% of the market. Dignam & Goff
Dignam & Goff was the project of Christy Dignam, the lead singer of the band Aslan, and the guitarist Conor Goff in the early 1990s before Aslan reunited in 1993. Goff was the guitarist of Fast Boys and his project called Conor Goff and The Crash had a top 20 hit in Ireland in 1987 with "America". Dignam & Goff made a number of recordings including "Hand Of Love", "Martin", "Rain", "Feel It In My Heart", "Sacrianna Falls" and "Walk On Water". No official Dignam and Goff CD was released due to Aslan overshadowing popularity over the duo's short-lived career. However, a CD titled ''Christy Dignam: The Singles 1984-1991'' was released on Solid Records in 1991. This is still available in Irish record stores and contains many Dignam & Goff singles as well as Aslan's earlier singles. Their unreleased album is known as ''Dead Blue Fish''.
