In Sweden, the area codes are, including the leading ''0'', two, three or four digits long, with larger towns and cities having shorter area codes permitting a larger number of telephone numbers in the eight to ten digits used (including the leading '0'). Before the 1990s, ten-digit numbers were very rare, but they have become increasingly common because of the deregulation of telecommunications, the new 112 emergency number (which required change of all numbers starting with 11), and the creation of a single area code for the Greater Stockholm area. No subscriber number is shorter than five digits. The longest subscriber numbers have eight digits (only in the Stockholm area). Mariefred
Mariefred is a locality situated in Strängnäs Municipality, Södermanland County, Sweden with 3,726 inhabitants in 2010. The name is derived from that of the former Carthusian monastery here, Mariefred Charterhouse, and means "Peace of Mary" (the former name was Gripsholm). It lies roughly 50 kilometres west of Stockholm. Mariefred, despite its small population, is for historical reasons often still referred to as a ''city''. Flen (local pronunciation ''Flén'') is a locality and the seat of Flen Municipality, Södermanland County, Sweden with 6,229 inhabitants in 2010. Flen evolved as a railway junction and got the title of a city in 1949. Since 1971 it is the seat of the much larger Flen Municipality. Other things which made Flen famous is " Violen från Flen", a song written by Ulf Peder Olrog in the 1940s. Vagnhärad is a locality situated in Trosa Municipality, Södermanland County, Sweden with 3,324 inhabitants in 2010. Landslide On 23 May 1997 a landslide along the banks of the Trosaån, or Trosa River, damaged or destroyed 7 residential houses. Only one person was injured but a total of 29 houses were demolished and 96 people lost their homes in the effort of preventing future slides in the area. The total cost of the slide has been calculated as approximately 150 million SEK. Nyköping () is a Urban areas in Sweden, locality and the seat of Nyköping Municipality, Södermanland County, Sweden with 32,759 inhabitants as of 2017.
