Antwerp International Airport, french: Aéroport International d'Anvers, german: Flughafen Antwerpen is a small international airport serving the City of Antwerp in the Province of Antwerp in the Flemish Region of Belgium. Located south of the city, it is used for some scheduled and charter flights as well as business and general aviation and served 273,130 passengers in 2017. History After the first flying events at the ''Wilrijkse Plein'', work on a proper airport for the city started in 1921, under the impulse of pioneer aviator Jan Olieslagers and others. Sabena operated passenger services from 1924 from an old railway carriage as the only passenger infrastructure. A proper airport terminal was ordered by minister Maurice Lippens and inaugurated in 1930. The airport was home to the aircraft factory Stampe et Vertongen until its demise after World War II. VLM Airlines
VLM Airlines was a Belgian airline offering scheduled, charter and ACMI services. It was headquartered at Antwerp International Airport in Deurne. It ceased operations on 31 August 2018. It is not to be confused with its Belgian sister airline VLM Airlines Brussels, which operated leisure charters and ceased operations in December 2018. The Boeing 757 is an American narrow-body airliner designed and built by Boeing Commercial Airplanes. The then-named 7N7, a twinjet successor for the 727 (a trijet), received its first orders in August 1978. Fokker 50
The Fokker 50 is a turboprop-powered airliner, designed as an improved version of the successful Fokker F27 Friendship. The Fokker 60 is a stretched freighter version of the Fokker 50. Both aircraft were manufactured and supported by Dutch aircraft manufacturer Fokker. The Fokker 50 was developed during the early 1980s following a decline in the sales of the company's earlier F27 Friendship. It was decided that the new airliner would be a derivative of its predecessor, sharing much of its airframe and design features, while incorporating new advances and several improvements, such as the adoption of Pratt & Whitney Canada PW127B turboprop engines, in order to produce a successor that had a 30 per cent reduction in fuel consumption over the F27. Air Antwerp was a Belgian regional airline headquartered at Antwerp International Airport in Deurne. History The application for a flight license (AOC) for Air Antwerp was secured in 2019 by the Transport and Mobility department. On 9 August, Air Antwerp confirmed that the flight permit and operating permit had been received. The first flight operated on 9 September to London City Airport. A few former employees of VLM Airlines worked at Air Antwerp, helping with the preparatory work. The first aircraft, which was shown to the public on 27 July 2019, was previously part of the VLM Airlines fleet. In October 2019, Air Antwerp joined the European Regions Airline Association. London City Airport is a regional airport in London, England. It is located in the Royal Docks in the Borough of Newham, approximately east of the City of London and east of Canary Wharf.
