Anthony Portantino
Anthony J. Portantino (born January 29, 1961) is an American politician currently serving in the California State Senate. A Democrat, he represents the 25th Senate District which encompasses portions of the San Fernando and San Gabriel valleys. Portantino was a member of the California State Assembly from 2006 to 2012, representing the 44th Assembly District. Portantino has a history of blocking efforts to increase housing production in California. In 2019, he used a pocket veto to block the California Senate from considering SB 50, which would have allowed for denser housing construction near public transit. In 2021, he killed a bill that would have ended minimum parking requirements for some new housing near transit stations. The ''Glendale News Press'' is a weekly newspaper published by Outlook Newspapers Group in Glendale, California. It covers local news, community events, and sports in Glendale and La Crescenta-Montrose. History The paper was founded as a weekly, ''The Glendale News'', on May 1, 1905, by E. M. McClure and J. F. 2008 California Proposition 8
Proposition 8, known informally as Prop 8, was a California ballot proposition and a state constitutional amendment intended to ban same-sex marriage; it passed in the November 2008 California state elections and was later overturned in court. The proposition was created by opponents of same-sex marriage in advance of the California Supreme Court's May 2008 appeal ruling, '' In re Marriage Cases'', which followed the short-lived 2004 same-sex weddings controversy and found the previous ban on same-sex marriage ( Proposition 22, 2000) unconstitutional. David Timothy Dreier OAE (/ draɪər/; born July 5, 1952) is an American businessman, philanthropist, and politician who served as a Republican member of the United States House of Representatives from California from 1981 to 2013. He was one of the youngest members ever elected to the United States Congress.
