Anne de La Tour d'Auvergne (1496–1524) was sovereign Countess of Auvergne from 1501 until 1524, and Duchess of Albany by marriage to John Stewart, Duke of Albany. In her marriage contract, she was called 'Anne de Boulogne fille de Jehan Comte de Boulogne et Auvergne.' Family She was the eldest of two daughters born to Jean III of la Tour d'Auvergne and Jeanne of Bourbon. Her younger sister was Madeleine de La Tour d'Auvergne, who would marry Lorenzo II de' Medici and become the mother of Catherine de' Medici. As the elder daughter, Anne was her father's heiress. Anne Hyde
Anne Hyde (12 March 163731 March 1671) was Duchess of York and Albany as the first wife of James, Duke of York, who later became King James II and VII. Anne was the daughter of a member of the English gentry – Edward Hyde (later created Earl of Clarendon) – and met her future husband when they were both living in exile in the Netherlands. She married James in 1660 and two months later gave birth to the couple's first child, who had been conceived out of wedlock. Some observers disapproved of the marriage, but James's brother, King Charles II of England, wanted the marriage to take place. Another cause of disapproval was the public affection James showed toward Anne, such as kissing and leaning against each other, which was considered improper behaviour from man to wife during the seventeenth century. Anne (6 February 1665 – 1 August 1714) was Queen of England, Scotland and Ireland from 8 March 1702 until 1 May 1707. On 1 May 1707, under the Acts of Union, the kingdoms of England and Scotland united as a single sovereign state known as Great Britain. Anne continued to reign as Queen of Great Britain and Ireland until her death. Anne Stuart Percy, Lady Warkworth (c.1745 – 20 January 1813), also known as "Lady Percy", was the first wife of Hugh Percy, 2nd Duke of Northumberland, Hugh Percy, later Duke of Northumberland (1742-1817). She is known for her association with the novelist Laurence Sterne, with whom she may have had an intimate relationship. Anne Crichton-Stuart was the third daughter of John Stuart, 3rd Earl of Bute, and his wife Mary Stuart, Countess of Bute, Mary. Dr. Ann Stuart is the former chancellor and president of Texas Woman's University. She came to TWU as the university's first chancellor. She was the fourth woman president, serving fourteen years from December 1, 1999, until her retirement on May 1, 2014. Before TWU, she was president of Rensselaer at Hartford, a graduate school associated with Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, New York.
