Andreas Bausewein
Andreas Bausewein (born 5 May 1973) is a German politician of the Social Democratic Party (SPD) who serves as mayor of Erfurt. Political career In 1990 Bausewein joined the SPD. From 1995 to 2004 he was state chairman of the party's youth organization, the Young Socialists, in Thuringia. Since 1994 he was a member of the board of the Thuringian SPD. From 1998 to 2008 and again since 2010, he is Deputy Chairman of the State party. From 2004 until 2006 Bausewein was a member of the Landtag of Thuringia. In May 2006, Bausewein won Erfurt’s mayoral election runoff against Dietrich Hagemann (CDU) with 60.2% of the vote (30.9% voter turnout). During the vote for a new SPD State Executive Committee on 7 June 2008, Bausewein was not re-elected. The main reason for this was that he was involved in an internal party struggle between the current chairman Christoph Matschie and his predecessor Richard Dewes for the position of chairman. The Social Democratic Party of Germany (german: Sozialdemokratische Partei Deutschlands, ; SPD, ) is a centre-left social democratic political party in Germany. Erfurt () is the capital and largest city in the Central German state of Thuringia. Landtag Of Thuringia
The Landtag of Thuringia is the parliament of the German federal state of Thuringia. It convenes in Erfurt and currently consists of 90 members from six parties. According to the free state's constitution, the primary functions of the Landtag are to pass laws, elect the Minister-President and control the government of Thuringia. Elections Elections are held every five years using the German Mixed-member proportional representation (MMP) system, with an election threshold of 5% vote share to receive any seats. All German citizens 18 years of age or older living in Thuringia are entitled to vote. If a party wins more constituency seats than its overall share of the vote, the overall size of the Landtag increases because of these overhang and leveling mandates. Christoph Matschie
Christoph Matschie (born 15 July 1961 in Mühlhausen) is a German politician of the Social Democratic Party (SPD) who served as Deputy Minister-President of Thuringia between 2009 and 2014. He was also a member of the Bundestag from 1999 to 2004 and from 2017 to 2021. Early life and career Matschie grew up in East Germany. From 1984 to 1989 he studied Theology at the University of Rostock and the University of Jena and earned a diploma. Political career Matschie joined the newly founded Social Democratic Party of East Germany in October 1989. Following the German reunification Matschie became a member of the SPD.
