American Society Of International Law
The American Society of International Law (ASIL), founded in 1906, was chartered by the United States Congress in 1950 to foster the study of international law, and to promote the establishment and maintenance of international relations on the basis of law and justice. ASIL holds Category II Consultative Status to the United Nations Economic and Social Council, and is a constituent society of the American Council of Learned Societies. ASIL is headquartered in Washington, D.C. Among the Society's publications are ''The American Journal of International Law'' (published four times a year), ''International Legal Materials'' (published every other month since 1962), ''Benchbook on International Law'', and ''Proceedings of the ASIL Annual Meeting''. Grotius Lectures
The Grotius Lectures is a series of annual lectures sponsored by the American Society of International Law since 1999. The lecture is named in honour of the famous Dutch jurist, Hugo Grotius (1583–1645), considered by many to be the 'father of international law.' Embassy Row
Embassy Row is the informal name for a section of Northwest Washington, D.C. with a high concentration of embassies, diplomatic missions, and diplomatic residences. It spans Massachusetts Avenue N.W. between 18th and 35th street, bounded by Scott Circle to the south and the United States Naval Observatory to the north; the term is often applied to nearby streets and neighborhoods that also host diplomatic buildings, such as Kalorama. Of the roughly 175 diplomatic missions in the city, the majority are located on or near Embassy Row, including those of Italy, Australia, India, Greece, Egypt, Ireland, Japan, and the United Kingdom. American Society Of Comparative Law
The American Society of Comparative Law (ASCL), formerly the American Association for the Comparative Study of Law, is a learned society dedicated to the study of comparative law, foreign law, and private international law. It was founded in 1951, and was admitted to American Council of Learned Societies in 1995. The ASCL is incorporated as a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization under the U.S. Internal Revenue Code. The ASCL publishes the ''American Journal of Comparative Law'' on a quarterly basis. It was established at the University of Michigan Law School in 1952, where ASCL Vice President and first Editor-in-Chief Hessel E. Yntema was a professor.
