Always Forward
Always Forward ( it, Sempre Avanti) was a liberal and centrist faction within the Democratic Party (PD), a political party in Italy. Its leaders were Roberto Giachetti and Anna Ascani, close advisors of Matteo Renzi, party's former national secretary and former Prime Minister of Italy from February 2014 to December 2016. The movement rose around Giachetti's candidacy as secretary in March 2019 leadership election, where he arrived third, gaining 12% of votes. Always Forward was considered Renzi's most loyal faction, which opposed any deal with secretary Nicola Zingaretti, a social democrat. On 17 September, during an interview to Italian newspaper ''la Repubblica'', Renzi announced his intention to leave the PD, and create new parliamentary groups, led by himself. Roberto Giachetti
Roberto Giachetti (born 24 April 1961) is an Italian politician, member of Italia Viva and of the Transnational Radical Party. He has been a member of the Italian Chamber of Deputies since 2001. Biography Roberto Giachetti was born in Rome in 1961. As a student, he was an activist of center-left libertarian Radical Party (PR), and worked with Radio Radicale. When the Radical Party was dissolved, Giachetti joined the Italian Greens and was elected a district councillor in Rome. In 1993, Mayor of Rome Francesco Rutelli appointed him director of his mayoral cabinet ( it, capo di gabinetto). Matteo Renzi (; born 11 January 1975) is an Italian politician who served as prime minister of Italy from 2014 to 2016. He has been a senator for Florence since 2018. Bruno Vespa
Bruno Paolo Vespa (born 27 May 1944) is an Italian television and newspaper journalist. A former director of the Italian state-owned TV channel Rai Uno's news program TG1, Vespa is the founding host of the program ''Porta a Porta'' (English:"Door to door"), which has been broadcast without interruption on RAI channels since 1996. Vespa was born in L'Aquila, Abruzzo. He is married to Augusta Iannini, who is a judge. Nicola Zingaretti
Nicola Zingaretti (; born 11 October 1965) is an Italian politician who served as President of Lazio and was Secretary of the Democratic Party from March 2019 until March 2021. During the 1990s, he was a prominent European youth leader, serving as National Secretary of the Left Youth, the youth-wing of the Democratic Party of the Left and as President of the International Union of Socialist Youth. 2019 Democratic Party (Italy) Leadership Election
The 2019 Democratic Party leadership election was an open primary election held on 3 March 2019. The election was triggered by the resignation of Matteo Renzi on 12 March 2018, following the party's defeat at the 2018 general election. Vice Secretary Maurizio Martina was appointed Secretary in July 2018 by the National Assembly, but he resigned after few months to officially start the party's congress. Six candidates were successfully nominated to stand in the Club's Conventions, held in January: Nicola Zingaretti, Maurizio Martina, Roberto Giachetti, Francesco Boccia, Dario Corallo and Maria Saladino. Anna Ascani (born 17 October 1987) is an Italian politician. Biography Ascani obtained a Bachelor in Philosophy in 2009 at the University of Perugia, and a master's degree at the University of Trento in 2012. Since 2016 she is enrolled in the PhD programme in Politics at the LUISS University. In 2006, at the age of 18, Ascani ran for a seat in the city council of her birth town Città di Castello in Umbria.
