Alice Rwema
Alice Rwema is a lawyer and civil servant in Rwanda who, since August 2014, has been the vice chairperson of the board of directors at Rwanda Energy Group (REG), a parastatal company responsible for energy generation, procurement, distribution and export. Since May 2017, she has also been the company secretary of REG. Background and education She attended the National University of Rwanda from which she graduated with a Bachelor of Laws degree in 2009. In 2014, she graduated with a Master of Laws, specialising in international business, tax and trade law, from the University of Rwanda. In 2013, she was seconded to the multinational law firm of Ashurst LLP for three months, sponsored by International Lawyers for Africa, a United Kingdom-based international training programme for African attorneys. The Cabinet of Rwanda consists of the Prime Minister, Ministers, Ministers of State and other members nominated by the President. Members of Cabinet are selected from political organisations based on the number of seats they hold in the Chamber of Deputies, but members of Cabinet cannot themselves belong to the Chamber. Energy In Rwanda
Energy use in Rwanda is undergoing rapid change at the beginning of the 21st century. Electricity Network The extent of grid electricity is limited and mainly concentrated near Kigali. Most of the country uses firewood as its main energy source. Rwanda is planning to expand from 276 MW of grid power in 2022 to 556 MW in 2024 and may import some additional electricity from neighboring countries. In addition, it is installing small solar units throughout the country to ensure that households located in off-grid areas have access to electricity, or to help deal with power outages. Currently, the government plans to bring electricity access to 100% of the population by 2024, as opposed to 74.5% in 2022. Swahili, also known by its local name , is the native language of the Swahili people, who are found primarily in Tanzania, Kenya and Mozambique (along the East African coast and adjacent litoral islands). It is a Bantu language, though Swahili has borrowed a number of words from foreign languages, particularly Arabic, but also words from Portuguese, English and German. Kinyarwanda, Rwandan or Rwanda, officially known as Ikinyarwanda, is a Bantu language and a dialect of the Rwanda-Rundi language that is spoken in Rwanda and adjacent parts of Burundi, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Uganda (where there is a dialect known as Rufumbira or Urufumbira) and Tanzania.
