Aleksandr Dokuchayev
Aleksandr Yakovlevich Dokuchayev was an aircraft designer and builder in Russia prior to and during World War I. Aircraft Most aircraft built by Dokuchayev were modified Farman designs, each unique. His first aircraft, completed in 1910, was an Anzani-powered biplane of pusher configuration. With 50 hp, the aircraft was tested, but may never have flown. In 1912, he completed a sesquiplane version of a Farman IV, and in 1914 he flew another modified Farman type, this time a trainer aircraft with equal span wings and producing 80 hp with its Gnome-Rhone engine. His fourth model was a return to the sesquiplane configuration, producing a trainer with three rudders operated on skis. Number 5 was a simple monoplane of his own design, but his final design was another Farman modification. Vasily Dokuchaev
Vasily Vasilyevich Dokuchaev (russian: Васи́лий Васи́льевич Докуча́ев; 1 March 1846 – 8 November 1903) was a Russian geologist and geographer who is credited with laying the foundations of soil science. The Ukrainian city of Dokuchaievsk is named after him. Overview Vasily Vasilevich Dokuchaev is commonly regarded as the father of soil science, the study of soils in their natural setting. He developed soil science in Russia, and was perhaps the first person to conduct broad geographical investigations of different soil types. His contribution to science did, figuratively, "put soils on the map". A trainer is a class of aircraft designed specifically to facilitate flight training of pilots and aircrews. The use of a dedicated trainer aircraft with additional safety features—such as tandem flight controls, forgiving flight characteristics and a simplified cockpit arrangement—allows pilots-in-training to safely advance their skills in a more forgiving aircraft. Civilian pilots are normally trained in a light aircraft, with two or more seats to allow for a student and instructor. Tandem and side by side The two seating configurations for trainer aircraft are: pilot and instructor side by side, or in tandem, usually with the pilot in front and the instructor behind. The side-by-side seating configuration has the advantage that pilot and instructor can see each other's actions, allowing the pilot to learn from the instructor and the instructor to correct the student pilot. Farman IV
Farman Aviation Works (french: Avions Farman) was a French aircraft company founded and run by the brothers Richard Farman, Richard, Henri Farman, Henri, and Maurice Farman. They designed and constructed aircraft and engines from 1908 until 1936; during the French nationalization and rationalization of its aeronautical industry, Farman's assets were assigned to the SNCAC, ''Société Nationale de Constructions Aéronautiques du Centre'' (SNCAC). In 1941 the Farman brothers reestablished the firm as the "''Société Anonyme des Usines Farman''" (SAUF), but only three years later it was absorbed by SNCASO, Sud-Ouest. Maurice's son, Marcel Farman, reestablished the SAUF in 1952, but his effort proved unsuccessful and the firm was dissolved in 1956.
