Giorgi Shengelaia ( ka, გიორგი შენგელაია; russian: Гео́ргий Никола́евич Шенгела́я; 11 May 1937 – 17 February 2020) was a Georgian and Soviet film director. He directed 14 films since 1961. His film ''Pirosmani'' (a poetic film about the great Georgian primitive artist Niko Pirosmanishvili who worked circa 1915) won the Grand Prize at the Chicago International Film Festival in 1974 and went on to international critical acclaim. Guram Rcheulishvili (Georgian: გურამ რჩეულიშვილი; July 4, 1934 in Tbilisi, Georgia ― August 23, 1960 in Gagra, Georgia) was a Georgian writer. Biography Guram Rcheulishvili was born on July 4, 1934 in Tbilisi. In 1957 he graduated from the historical faculty at Tbilisi State University. His first stories, which were printed in the newspaper ''Tsiskari'' in 1957, brought him great success. During his life, only some of his works were published. His collected works, ''Salamura'', were published after his death, in 1961. Rcheulishvili’s prose attracted readers by its style, dialogues, and ideas. His works remain popular. Avto Varazi ( ka, ავთო ვარაზი) was a Georgian artist and painter. Avto Varazi occupies a special place in Georgian painting of the 20th century. The artist applied various painting systems and techniques with equal success. Religious motifs also took a significant role in Varazi’s work, which was quite unusual for a painter of the Soviet period. His teacher was a Soviet Georgian artist, graphic designer and sculptor Alexander Bazhbeuk-Melikyan. Varazi was the first among Georgian artists to apply the technique of collage. Varazi’s works are spread among world museums, while the fate of some of them remains unknown. ''Bull's Head'' is kept at MoMa. Alaverdi Monastery
Alaverdi Monastery ( ka, ალავერდის მონასტერი) is a Georgian Eastern Orthodox monastery located from Akhmeta, in the Kakheti region of Eastern Georgia. While parts of the monastery date back to 6th century, the present day cathedral was built in the 11th century by Kvirike III of Kakheti, replacing an older church of St. George. It is considered one of the four Great Cathedrals of the Georgian Orthodox world. Kakheti
Kakheti ( ka, კახეთი ''K’akheti''; ) is a region (mkhare) formed in the 1990s in eastern Georgia from the historical province of Kakheti and the small, mountainous province of Tusheti. Alaverdoba ( ka, ალავერდობა) is a religious and folk celebration in the eastern Georgian province of Kakheti, with its roots in a harvest festival. It focuses on Alaverdi Cathedral from which it derives its name, with the suffix –''oba'' designating attribution. The festival lasts for several days, climaxing on 28 September, the feast day of St. Joseph of Alaverdi of the Thirteen Assyrian Fathers, the 6th-century founder of the cathedral. Historically Alaverdoba lasted for three weeks in a three-step cycle, reflecting pre-Christian cults related to the Moon.
