Alan Edwards (actor)
Alan Edmund William Edwards AM MBE (17 January 1925 – 14 January 2003) was a British actor and founding Artistic Director of the Queensland Theatre Company in Brisbane, Queensland, Australia. He was considered a major contributor to the artistic life of Queensland and was appointed MBE (Member of the Order of the British Empire) and Member of the Order of Australia for his services to theatre. He was also made an honorary Doctor of Letters by the University of Southern Queensland. Edwards won a scholarship to the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art. He also obtained the same for the Old Vic School. After completing his training, he worked in various repertory theatres in England and Scotland before joining the Birmingham Repertory Theatre. Bille Brown
William Gerald Brown AM (11 January 195213 January 2013) professionally known as Billie Brown was an Australian stage, film and television actor and acclaimed playwright. Early life Brown was born in Biloela, Queensland and studied drama at the University of Queensland. He began his career in the early 1970s at Queensland Theatre Company, working alongside Geoffrey Rush. He was openly gay. Abroad Brown's career took him abroad to Britain, where he joined the Royal Shakespeare Company (RSC), and was the first Australian commissioned to write and perform in their own play – ''The Swan Down Gloves''. The show opened at the Barbican Theatre (RSC's home theatre from 1982 to 2002) and had a Royal Command Performance. The Most Excellent Order of the British Empire is a British order of chivalry, rewarding contributions to the arts and sciences, work with charitable and welfare organisations, and public service outside the civil service. The Actors' & Entertainers' Benevolent Fund of Queensland (Inc) is a registered charity assisting actors, performers, and entertainers in times of dire circumstance. It is commonly known as the Actors' Benevolent Fund, ABF QLD, and The Fund. The Fund is run by an elected committee of industry professionals, with Michael Balk JP as the current president. Aubrey Mellor
Aubrey Mellor is an Australian theatre director, dramaturge and teacher. Mellor has had a multi-disciplinary practice, having also worked as a writer, adapter, set designer, translator, producer, and stage manager. Early life and training Brought up around variety and circus, Mellor trained in many fields as a young man. His experience traversed dance, music and visual art. He went on to graduate from a production course at the National Institute of Dramatic Art in Sydney in 1969. In 1972 Mellor was awarded a Churchill Fellowship. This experience allowed Mellor to study the traditional theatre of the East with a view to incorporating principles observed in Japan where appropriate into the Australian theatre techniques. Carol Ann Burns (29 October 1947 – 22 December 2015) was an Australian actress, theatre director and patron of the arts, with a career spanning 50 years. She worked extensively in theatre and television serials, as well as telemovies and mini-series in Australia and the United Kingdom.
