Adolf Born
Adolf Born (12 June 1930 – 22 May 2016) was a Czech painter, illustrator, filmmaker and caricaturist, "known for his murkily-tinted pictures of bizarre fauna, and Victorian gentlemen in top hats and top coats". České Velenice
České Velenice (, german: Unterwielands, Gmünd-Wielands, Gmünd-Bahnhof, 1938–45: Gmünd III)) is a town in Jindřichův Hradec District in the South Bohemian Region of the Czech Republic. It has about 3,500 inhabitants. It lies on the border with Austria and shares the railway and pedestrian border crossing with Gmünd. History Until 1870, there were only small settlements of Česká Cejle, Josefsko and Dolní Velenice in the area constituting current České Velenice, and it was part of the Austrian town of Gmünd. In 1868 the main railway station and the factory for repairing rolling stock and locomotives were established. The development of this border area was decisively increased by the inauguration of the Emperor Franz Joseph Railway connecting Vienna to Prague in 1869. The International Board on Books for Young People (IBBY) is an international non-profit organization committed to bringing books and children together. The headquarters of the IBBY are located in Basel, Switzerland. IBBY history In 1952, Jella Lepman organized a meeting in Munich, Germany, called ''International Understanding through Children’s Books''. Many authors, publishers, teachers and philosophers of the time attended the meeting and as a result a committee was appointed to create the International Board on Books for Young People – IBBY. A year later in 1953, IBBY was registered as a non-profit organization in Zürich, Switzerland. Albatross Books
Albatross Books was a German publishing house based in Hamburg that produced the first modern mass-market paperback books. Albatross was founded in 1932 by John Holroyd-Reece, Max Christian Wegner and Kurt Enoch. The name was chosen because ''albatross'' is the same word in many European languages. Based on the example of Tauchnitz, a Leipzig publishing firm that had been producing inexpensive and paper-bound English-language reprints for the continental market, Albatross set out to streamline and modernize the paperback format. The books in the series were produced with a layout designed by Giovanni Mardersteig, then art director at the Mondadori Italian publishing house, including a new standard size, 181 x 111 mm, which approximated the aesthetically pleasing proportions known as the Golden Ratio. Miloš Macourek (2 December 1926, Kroměříž – 30 September 2002, Prague) was a Czech poet, playwright, author and screenwriter. Biography During his career, Macourek worked in various professions. Mach A Šebestová
Mach a Šebestová (in English: Mach and Šebestová or Max and Sally) is a Czech cartoon series. It was created by writer Miloš Macourek, animator Jaroslav Doubrava, and painter Adolf Born. The animated characters were voiced by Petr Nárožný. The animation is produced in a studio of Barrandov under Bratri v triku/Kratky Film Praha/Ustredni Pujcovna Filmu mark (later Bonton acquired and distributed the old episodes as of today). The story follows the adventures of two third-year pupils and a torn off telephone receiver. The first series of 13 episodes was broadcast on Czechoslovak Television in 1982. Mach a Šebestová is one of the most popular series made for children's television programme Večerníček. Radio Prague International ( cs, Český rozhlas 7 – Radio Praha) is the official international broadcasting station of the Czech Republic. Broadcasting first began on August 31, 1936 near the spa town of Poděbrady. Radio Prague broadcasts in six languages: English, German, French, Spanish, Czech and Russian. It broadcasts programmes about the Czech Republic on satellite and on the Internet. The Ondřejov Observatory (; cs, Observatoř Ondřejov) is the principal observatory of the Astronomical Institute () of the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic. It is located near the village of Ondřejov, southeast of Prague, Czech Republic. It has a wide telescope, which is the largest in the Czech Republic.
