is an Arabic word variously translated as district, quarter, ward, or neighborhood in many parts of the Arab world, the Balkans, Western Asia, the Indian subcontinent, and nearby nations. History Historically, mahallas were autonomous social institutions built around familial ties and Islamic rituals. Aziziye
Aziziye is a municipality and district of Erzurum Province, Turkey. Its area is 1,529 km2, and its population is 65,553 (2022). The district was established as ''Ilıca District'' in 1990, with its centre at Ilıca. It was expanded with the former municipality Dadaşkent and renamed to ''Aziziye'' in 2008. Aziziye lies in the western part of the urban area of Erzurum. The district center is famous for thermal springs (39.4 oC). Erzurum Province
Erzurum Province () is a province and metropolitan municipality in the Eastern Anatolia Region of Turkey. Its area is 25,006 km2, and its population is 749,754 (2022). The capital of the province is the city of Erzurum. It is the fourth largest province in all of Turkey. Turkish People
Turks (), or Turkish people, are the largest Turkic peoples, Turkic ethnic group, comprising the majority of the population of Turkey and Northern Cyprus. Muhtar (title)
A muhtar is the elected village head in villages of Turkey and in villages of Northern Cyprus, the Turkish occupied part of the Republic of Cyprus. In city, cities, likewise, each neighbourhood has a muhtar but with a slightly different status. Muhtars and their village councils () are elected during local elections for five years. However, political party, political parties are not permitted to nominate candidates for these posts. Rural muhtars In each village, the muhtar is the highest elected authority of the village. (There is no mayor in a village.)
