Australia competed at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London, from 27 July to 12 August 2012. Australian athletes have competed in every Summer Olympic Games of the modern era. The Australian Olympic Committee sent a total of 410 athletes to the Games to compete in 23 sports. Australia left London with a total of 35 medals (7 gold, 16 silver, and 12 bronze), the lowest in Summer Olympics since 1992. Ten of these medals were awarded to the athletes in swimming, including the gold from the women's freestyle relay team; six in cycling, five in rowing, and four in sailing. Nine Australian athletes won more than a single Olympic medal in London, while 11 of them managed to claim their Olympic titles for the first time. Lisbeth Trickett
Lisbeth Constance Trickett, (; born 28 January 1985) is an Australian retired competitive swimmer. She was a gold medallist at the 2004, 2008, and the 2012 Summer Olympics. She was the world record holder in the short-course (25m) 100-metre freestyle. Personal life Trickett was educated at Somerville House. She married swimmer Luke Trickett among scenes of tight security at Taronga Zoo on Sydney Harbour on 7 April 2007. The couple entered via a "walking tent", due to the exclusive photo deal the couple had with women's magazine New Idea. The couple revealed later they split the photo profits between three charities. David Smith (canoeist)
David William Smith (born 13 February 1987 in Shellharbour) is an Australian sprint canoeist who has competed since the late 2000s. He won a silver medal in the K-2 1000 m event at the 2009 ICF Canoe Sprint World Championships in Dartmouth. He also won a silver at the 2011 ICF World Championships in Szeged, Hungary in the K-4 1000m, and then a bronze in the same event in 2013. Smith competed in the K-4 1000 m event at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing, but was eliminated in the semifinals. Jacob Peter Clear (born 18 January 1985) is an Australian sprint canoeist who competed in the late 2000s. At the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing, he was eliminated in the semifinals of the K-2 500 m event. He was a member of the gold medal-winning Australian Kayak Four (K4) 1000m team in the London Olympics 2012. Clear was a life-saving nipper from the age of 5 and began kayaking at the age of 21. Sailing At The 2012 Summer Olympics – 49er
The men's 49er (dinghy), 49er was a sailing event on the Sailing at the 2012 Summer Olympics program in Weymouth and Portland National Sailing Academy. Sixteen races (last one a medal race) were scheduled and completed. 40 sailors, on 20 boats, from 20 nations competed. Ten boats qualified for the medal race on course area Nothe in front of Weymouth, where each position scored double points. Nathan James Outteridge (born 28 January 1986) is an Australian sailor, a resident of Lake Macquarie. Career highlights Olympics :2008 – Beijing Olympics 5th, 49er (with Ben Austin) :2012 – London Olympics 1st, 49er (with Iain Jensen ) :2016 – Rio Olympics 2nd, 49er (with Iain Jensen ) He is most famous for winning a gold medal at the London Olympics in the 49er class, along with Iain Jensen. Iain Jensen
Iain Valjean Jensen (born 23 May 1988 in Belmont, New South Wales) is an Australian sailor. He started sailing in his hometown of Wangi Wangi when he was five years old, with his Olympic and Artemis Racing teammate Nathan Outteridge. With Outteridge, he won the 2009 and 2011 49er World Championships and gold at the 2012 Summer Olympics in the 49ers class. The team also won silver at the 2016 Summer Olympics. He is a member of the NSW Institute of Sport in Sydney and a wing trimmer for Artemis Racing. He lives in Lake Macquarie. Athletics At The 2012 Summer Olympics
The athletics competitions at the 2012 Olympic Games in London were held during the last 10 days of the Games, on 3–12 August. Track and field events took place at the Olympic Stadium in east London. The road events, however, started and finished on The Mall in central London. Over 2,000 athletes from 201 nations competed in 47 events in total, with both men and women having a very similar schedule of events. Men competed in 24 events and women in 23, of which 21 were the same for both. The women's schedule lacked the 50 km race walk and included 100 m hurdles and heptathlon as opposed to the men's 110 m hurdles and decathlon. The youngest participant in the athletics competition was Andorran 15-year-old Cristina Llovera while the oldest was 46-year-old Ukrainian Oleksandr Dryhol.
