Aurélien Bélanger
Aurélien Bélanger (March 18, 1878 – February 12, 1953) was an Ontario political figure. He represented Russell in the Legislative Assembly of Ontario as a Liberal and Independent Liberal from 1923 to 1929 and Prescott as a Liberal from 1934 to 1948. He was born in Sainte-Scholastique, Quebec in 1878, the son of Zotique Belanger, and studied at the Université Laval. Bélanger was a professor at the University of Ottawa, school inspector for Russell County, director of bilingual schools for the city of Ottawa and president of the Saint-Jean-Baptiste Society of Ottawa. He married Alida, the daughter of Télesphore Rochon. Franco-Ontarians ( or if female, sometimes known as ''Ontarois'' and ''Ontaroises'') are Francophone Canadians that reside in the province of Ontario. Most are French Canadians from Ontario. In 2021, according to the Government of Ontario, there were Francophones in the province. The majority of Franco-Ontarians in the province reside in Eastern Ontario, Northeastern Ontario, Central Ontario (including the Greater Toronto Area), although small francophone communities may be found in other regions of the province. The United Counties of Prescott and Russell () is a county located in the Canadian province of Ontario. Its county seat is L'Orignal. L'Orignal, Ontario
L'Orignal () is a Franco-Ontarian village and former municipality, now part of Champlain Township in eastern Ontario, Canada. Its population in 2016 was 1,450. L'Orignal likely took its name from its location on the Ottawa River once known as Pointe à l'Orignal ( French for "Moose Point"), where moose crossed the river. It was one of the seigneuries of New France. History In 1674, the Company of New France granted the Seigneurie de L'Orignac to François Prévost. ''Le Droit'' is a Canadian French-language digital weekly newspaper, published in Gatineau, Quebec. Initially established and owned by the Missionary Oblates of Mary Immaculate, the paper was published by Martin Cauchon and his company, Capitales Médias, from 2015 - 2019, when a cooperative was formed by the employees to continue publishing the paper. Formerly published in Ottawa, Ontario, for much of its history, it was the only francophone daily newspaper published in Ontario for the Franco-Ontarian community.
