Aurora Ximenes
Aurora Ximenes (born June 13, 1955) is an East Timorese politician. She is a member of the FRETILIN party. From 1975, the year of the Indonesian invasion of East Timor, Ximenes was a member of the ''Organização Popular de Mulheres Timorense'' (Popular Organisation of East Timorese Women) (OPMT), and she engaged in FRETILIN resistance activities for six years following the invasion. She was then arrested and detained for three years. She has been Assistant General Secretary of the OPMT, a member of the central committee of FRETILIN, and the coordinator of the East Timor Women's Network (REDE). Ximenes was born in Samalari, Baguia, Baucau District, Portuguese Timor. She gained a Bachelor of Arts in public administration, and later worked as a public servant. From at least 2002 until September 2006, she was the district administrator for Liquica. Council Of State (East Timor)
The Council of State (, ) is a body established by the East Timorese Constitution to advise the President of the Republic in the exercise of many of his or her discretionary powers. History The East Timorese Council of State is modelled on its Portuguese counterpart, which traces its history back to 1385. Portugal was the European colonizing power in East Timor between 1702 and 1975. The then Portuguese Council of State was declared extinct in October 1910 when the Portuguese monarchy was overthrown. In 1931, however, during the '' Ditadura Nacional'' (National Dictatorship), a National Political Council was created. Two years later, upon the adoption of Portugal's Constitution of 1933 creating the '' Estado Novo'' (New State), the National Political Council became the Council of State. The Revolutionary Front for an Independent East Timor (, abbreviated as Fretilin) is a separatist organization turned centre-left political party in Timor-Leste. The National Parliament (, ) is the unicameral national legislature in Timor-Leste. It was created in 2001 as the Constituent Assembly while the country was still administered by the United Nations, but renamed itself to the National Parliament with the attaining of national independence on 20 May 2002. Structure National Parliament has 65 members, elected every five years through party-list proportional representation voting. Baucau District
Baucau (, ) is a municipality, and was formerly a district, of East Timor, on the northern coast in the eastern part of the country. The capital is also called Baucau (formerly Vila Salazar). The population of the municipality is 111,694 (census 2010) and it has an area of 1,506 km2. Etymology The word ''Baucau'' is derived from the word "Akau", which means "pig" in the local Waimoa language. During the Portuguese colonial era, the name of the district was transformed, first into ''Macau'' and finally into ''Baucau''. An alternative name for the Baucau community is ''Wailia-Wailewa'', meaning the "great water spring of Wai Lia". In the Wai Lia area (part of the '' suco'' of ), a large spring is located under large trees; it is both an animist and a Christian holy place.
