Aucán Huilcamán
Aucán Huilcamán Paillama (born January 31, 1965) is the leader ("werkén") of the indigenism, indigenist Mapuche organization ''Consejo de Todas las Tierras'' ("Council of all lands"). He intended to run for president in the 2005–06 Chilean presidential election, 2005 election, but his candidacy was not accepted as he was not able to collect enough official votes validated by public notaries. Mapuche Politicians
The Mapuche ( , ) also known as Araucanians are a group of Indigenous inhabitants of south-central Chile and southwestern Argentina, including parts of Patagonia. The collective term refers to a wide-ranging ethnicity composed of various groups who share a common social, religious, and economic structure, as well as a common linguistic heritage as Mapudungun speakers. Their homelands once extended from Choapa Valley to the Chiloé Archipelago and later spread eastward to Puelmapu, a land comprising part of the Argentine pampa and Patagonia. Today the collective group makes up over 80% of the Indigenous peoples in Chile and about 9% of the total Chilean population. The Mapuche are concentrated in the Araucanía region. Council Of All Lands
The Council of All Lands (In Spanish ) or ''Aukiñ Wallmapu Ngulam'' (AWNg) is an indigenist separatist organization that defines itself as aimed to create a "Mapuche state" in Chile and Argentina in the territories defined as "Wallmapu" by them. Its leader is the " werkén" Aucán Huilcamán. The organization has its roots in the Commission for the 500 years of resistance (''Comisión 500 años de resistencia''), created in 1989 as a splinter group of ADMAPU, whose members had become critical of ADMAPU. The commission subsequently changed name to Consejo de Todas las Tierras in 1990. Flag creation In March 1991, the Chilean Mapuche Indigenist political organisation ''Aukiñ Wallmapu Ngulam'', also known as Council of All Lands, made a call to make the flag of the Mapuche people. A werkén is a traditional tribal leader (but not a chief) in the Mapuche tradition, an Amerindian group indigenous to South America. Héctor Llaitul
Héctor Javier Llaitul Carrillanca ( Osorno, Los Lagos Region, November 19, 1967) is a Chilean of Mapuche-Huilliche origin, known as the leader of the armed organization Coordinadora Arauco-Malleco (CAM) participant in the Mapuche conflict, where he is referred to as "Comandante Héctor" or "El Negro." He has been charged with crimes such as incitement to violence, use of firearms, violent occupation, theft of timber, and attacks against authorities. Llaitul has been accused of planning and executing arson attacks in the Biobío and Araucanía regions. He was prosecuted and formally charged by the Nueva Imperial prosecutor's office based on the testimony of Roberto Painemil, which was allegedly obtained under torture, and was acquitted of all charges in June 2008. Mapuche Conflict
The Mapuche conflict () involves indigenous Mapuche communities, known by the foreigners as the Araucanians, located in Araucanía and nearby regions of Chile and Argentina. The first attack, marking the beginning of the period of violence in the Southern Macrozone of Chile, occurred in December 1997 with the burning of three trucks. Since then, violence has progressively increased and expanded to the neighboring regions of Biobío and Los Lagos. The conflict itself is related to the land ownership disputes between Argentina and Chile since the 19th Century as well as corporations such as big forestry companies and their contractors.
