The Auburn Tigers football program represents Auburn University in the sport of American college football. Auburn competes in the Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) and the Southeastern Conference (SEC). Auburn officially began competing in intercollegiate football in 1892. The Tigers joined the SEC in 1932 as one of the inaugural members of the conference. They began competing in the West Division when the conference divided in 1992, doing so until the SEC eliminated divisions in 2024. Auburn has achieved 12 undefeated seasons and won 16 conference championships, along with 10 divisional championships. The Tigers have made 44 post season bowl appearances, including 12 historically major bowl berths. With over 800 total wins, Auburn is the 13th winningest FBS program. The 1892 Auburn Tigers football team represented Auburn University in the 1892 college football season. It was the first college football team fielded by the Agricultural and Mechanical College of Alabama, now known as Auburn University. The squad was first coached by George Petrie. Auburn shut out Georgia Tech, 26–0, just two days after being shut out by North Carolina, 64–0. The team finished the season with a record of 2–2. The Auburn–Ole Miss football rivalry is a college football rivalry game between the Tigers of Auburn University and the Rebels of the University of Mississippi. History Both founding members of the Southeastern Conference, Auburn and Ole Miss first met on October 20, 1928, in Birmingham, Alabama with Ole Miss winning the game by a score of 19–0.
