Club Atlético San Cristóbal was a Venezuelan professional football club and the club won one First Division title in the professional era. The club was based in San Cristóbal, Táchira. In 1986 it merged with Deportivo Táchira to form Unión Atlético Táchira. History The club was founded in 1980 as Club Atlético San Cristóbal, and participated in the 1983 Copa Libertadores. Táchira State (, ) is one of the 23 States of Venezuela, states of Venezuela. The state capital is San Cristóbal, Táchira, San Cristóbal. Táchira State covers a total surface area of and as of the 2011 census, had a population of 1,168,908. At the end of the 19th century, Táchira State was where oil was discovered in Venezuela. The CONMEBOL Libertadores, also known as Copa Libertadores de América (), is an annual continental club football competition organized by CONMEBOL since 1960. It is the highest level of competition in South American club football. The tournament is named after the '' Libertadores'' (Spanish and Portuguese for ''liberators''), the leaders of the Spanish American wars of independence and Brazilian Independence, so a literal translation of its former name into English is "''Liberators of America Cup''".
