Atlantic City High School (ACHS) is a comprehensive high school, comprehensive State school, public Secondary education in the United States, high school in Atlantic City, New Jersey, Atlantic City, in Atlantic County, New Jersey, Atlantic County, in the U.S. state of New Jersey. It is the lone secondary school of the Atlantic City School District. The current school building opened in 1994 and holds approximately 2,500 students. The school serves students from Atlantic City, along with those from Brigantine, New Jersey, Brigantine, Longport, New Jersey, Longport, Margate City, New Jersey, Margate City and Ventnor City, New Jersey, Ventnor City, who attend the school as part of sending/receiving relationships with their respective school districts. As of the 2023–24 school year, the school had an enrollment of 1,699 students and 144.8 classroom teachers (on an full-time equivalent, FTE basis), for a student–teacher ratio of 11.7:1. Sending/receiving Relationship
A sending/receiving relationship is one in which a public school district sends some or all of its students to attend the schools of another district. This is often done to achieve costs savings in smaller districts or continues after districts have grown as part of a historical relationship. The term is used in primary and secondary education in the states of New Jersey, Delaware, and Pennsylvania in the United States, although the concept exists in other states. At times, the sending district may be granted representation on the receiving district's board of education. On the receiving district's board of education, the sending representative usually votes ''only'' on issues pertaining to the students received and district-wide issues. New Jersey State Interscholastic Athletic Association
The New Jersey State Interscholastic Athletic Association (NJSIAA) is an association of hundreds of New Jersey high schools that regulates high school athletics and holds tournaments and crowns champions in high school sports. State championships In order for schools to move on to the state championship, they must achieve a winning percentage of .500 or greater by a pre-set date (the "cut–off" date). Football, wrestling and bowling are the only sports where a school may have a .500 record and not qualify for the postseason. For football and wrestling, it is only the best eight schools in each section that move on. High School Proficiency Assessment
The High School Proficiency Assessment (HSPA, pronounced "hess-pah" (/ˈhɛspə/) or sometimes just "H-S-P-A") was a standardized test that was administered by the New Jersey Department of Education to all New Jersey public high school students in March of their junior year until 2014-2015 when it was replaced by the PARCC. Together with the New Jersey Assessment of Skills and Knowledge (NJ ASK), which was administered in grades 3–8, the HSPA was part of a battery of tests used to assess student performance in New Jersey's public schools.
